What did you learn today?

Toombs & Tattnall counties... I used to travel down there to call high school football games.
Not long after I posted that, one of the more inept local TV stations claimed "they could now reveal" that three of those lizards were supposedly found in Atlanta, but the sensationalizing "reporter" did not cite a source, or provide any specific details. They may have been former pets released into the wild.

In any case... It's not like the winters are getting any colder, so it's worth keeping an eye out. ;)

All I've ever found in my garden is pig bones, lots of them, but about 40 years ago an old lady gave me a cannon ball that she dug up in her garden (a few hundred yards from my house).

I showed it to another neighbour (a retired history professor) who identified it as a 6lb one which probably dates from the English Civil War (1642 - 1651), He said that there have been quite a few found around this area.

I was hoping that it might have been from the battle of Stamford Bridge (1066) which was not very far from here but he said he was pretty sure that it wasn't that old.

i also learned Skinny Ribs is an incredible Dead cover band. I’ve had a playlist with this song on it for a couple months from a guy wanting to do some acoustic stuff, and always assumed it was the Dead but surprise surprise.

Shinyribs is more than a Dead coverband.

They also do original music. Kevin Russel was previously a member of Austin band the Gourds.

Half the matter in the universe was missing – [they] found it hiding in the cosmos.
In the late 1990s, cosmologists made a prediction about how much ordinary matter there should be in the universe. About 5%, they estimated, should be regular stuff with the rest a mixture of dark matter and dark energy. But when cosmologists counted up everything they could see or measure at the time, they came up short. By a lot.

The sum of all the ordinary matter that cosmologists measured only added up to about half of the 5% [t]hat was supposed to be in the universe.

This is known as the “missing baryon problem” and for over 20 years, cosmologists like us looked hard for this matter without success.

It took the discovery of a new celestial phenomenon and entirely new telescope technology, but earlier this year, our team finally found the missing matter. …
