I’d heard a week or so ago that we were right on the edge of entering La Niña. What happened?
TIL that Charles M. Rice, PhD, is one of three people to win the 2020 Nobel Prize in Medicine "for the discovery of hepatitis C virus. The Nobel Assembly said in a news release Monday that the three scientists 'made seminal discoveries that led to the identification of a novel virus.' It said the trio had 'made a decisive contribution to the fight against blood-borne hepatitis, a major global health problem that causes cirrhosis and liver cancer in people around the world.'"
Dr. Rice was born in my hometown of Sacramento, and was educated at UC Davis, just west of Sacramento.

Many are still betting on the girl. That would suit me, despite the fact that there are inherent dangers involved. We have fire and flood to choose from here. Whacko! I used to love summer.
An each way bet might seem logical — it's a two horse race
Trouble is, this feels a lot like last year: evident cold snaps giving way to sweltering heat. The cold snaps have been even colder, this time around. All that lovely, cooling antarctic ice must be migrating via THC (thermohaline circulation).
The global conveyor belt on a continuous-ocean map
This conveyor belt, our planet's thermohaline circulation, helps to govern the climate — it's a major driver — keeping the ball rolling so that it all remains a constant, weather-wise, as we evolve, with the predictable seasons that we're all so very used to.
But, this water, from down at the pole at the bottom of the world in our case, is melted sea ice, very salty, very cold, that hits the ocean floor, and then begins its migration across the seas as it has always done.
That cold radiates, real school, and can give us extraordinary cold spells etc., not so seasonally aligned, or amplified. Trouble, as a consequence, tends to strike more often — storms, hurricanes, wildfires, rain events, and the like. Even volcanic activity seems to have increased as a consequence (my hunch). Temperature fluctuations play havoc with all manner of things. Anthropogenic havoc, they'd have us believe, which might help explain all of this nonsense.
My guess is that the boy may again gain ascendancy, this time around, worse luck. We'll take what we get and be thankful, learn how to make do. But this world of ours clearly needs saner minds — she will come back if we give her half a chance. The exploitation needs to stop.
At this point, we're in for a rough ride, getting rougher, it seems to me. Time for us now to grow some antarctic ice, send some of this sunlight back to wherever it came from. Return to sender.

I believe that Alembic Activators have a Faraday system built into them so there's no hum. I had an Activator set in a fretless P bass I used to have and it was true, no hum at all. From all I could tell, it was whisper quiet. I mean, when you wanted it to be. Ha ha.I learned a pickup cover on a Fender is not a Faraday Cage.
