what do do with emg 40p5 and 40tw?

what to do with an EMG 40P5 in the neck and a 40TW in the bridge

well guys,

i have a stock rebop (hz's/tonepump) and it's honestly pretty good. i think i might be able to be satisfied with this... but why stay stock?

i have gathered a 40p5, a 40 tw and a bqc control that i plan on putting in (with a 25k p/p pot on the way).

my plan is to obviously put the 40p5 in the neck spot and the 40tw in the bridge spot. i'm thinking of setting it up so the "j" coil is the pot pushed down and the "cs" coil is when the pot is pulled up. but i'm wondering should i do anything besides the obvious?

i read on here that you can actually have the "j" and "cs" coils in the 40tw going at the same time. i then started wondering if the "cs" is split-able... series/parallel wiring?

i don't want to have options for options sake... but i don't just want to do the practical setup and possibly lose out on something that could be pretty cool.

so, go practical/natural, or go experimental. and if so, how. your thoughts?

I voted for having the CS as the default but that because I like the humbucker sound in the bridge. Of course I dig the PJ setup as well but I think the humbucker in the bridge gives you more "bass meat" and gives a more balanced growl than a J. If you've tried PJ basses before and loved the sound then the J coil as the default may be what you want. You might even want to consider getting another TW for the neck position to get even more versatility.

honestly, this might sound odd, but i don't know that i've ever played a bass with a p/j setup. i do know that the spectors i know and love from my childhood were p/j setups. i wasn't sure what i wanted as far as new pups so i just started looking in the classifieds. the first one at a good price was the 40p5. figured i'd take a chance. if i don't like it, i could get a 40dc and just pop it in with the quick connect. and then seeing a 40tw i figured it'd work as a p/j setup... or as a dc/cs setup. this will be my first experience with active emg's. hence asking before i break out the iron and get to work.

looks like no one thinks i'll gain anything from an "alternative" setup so far and only one thinks the "normal" setup should be p/j... while everyone else is going p/cs. well if it stays that way in the next couple of days i'll go with y'all's experience and recommendations.

well, it looks like the humbucker is winning the race. it'll probably be a week or so before i get the time to do this... but i'll go with the recommendation from you guys. i'm surprised there wasn't at least one vote/idea for some creative use of the pup.

i originally thought that. the bass i had for 16 years prior to this had "jazz" pups in it. wondered if i wouldn't like going the route of two 40tw's. what would be really great is if somehow emg could come up with a pup that had a "P" pup and a "DC" all in one. then i could have that in the neck and have what i view as the two popular spector pup setups. i know that's easier said than done.
