My string journey has brought me to the following criteria for my next set: nickel round on hex core, high tension, strong mids. nickel lo-riders or sadowsky black labels are on my short list. What else should I look at?

Correction:

DR Hi Beams = Round Core Stainless Steel

D'Addario XL Nickel Rounds = Hex Core Nickel-Plated Steel

Either way those are the strings i prefer. The DRs i like for their tone and flexibility i also use lighter gauges with the Drs. The XLs are cool and cheap. For the Drs i use sets with the .125 low b. with the daddarios i tend to like heavier gauges and use a .130 or even a .135 low b.

I have put a second set of the DR High Beams (tapered) stainless steel rounds on my '94 Warwick 5-er. The have a lot of punch in the mid neck area. B and E sound very nice also. When I turn from active to passive they can come close to a flatwound sound - not real close but for most shows close enough.
