What do you hate about your favorite bass?

My US G&L L2000.

Beautiful bass in nearly every way, both in looks and sound. But the neck is so friggen thick (front to back) and the output is the "hottest" of any bass I've ever owned.

Small price to pay I suppose.

Warmoth, Fender and G&L Jazzes and P's. I like everything about them. If I didn't......I wouldn't own them. Well, except for that dead spot on the Fenders. and....the crummy tuners on the '80's maid in Japan stuff. Oh yea, the 10.5 lbs of my 1983 Squier P-bass....the scratchy pot on the G&L, the string through bridge on the '96 P-bass......eh, so I don't like some things. I still own 'em though......and they are mine. I love them. My basses.....my....things.

My Valenti J5 used to be my favorite but I ended up trading it because I got tired of adjusting the action on it. That thing moved so much that, even though I loved the tone, the feel, and the looks of it, I was compelled to trade it. Even when I did my own adjustments most of the time it still needed to be professionally set up twice a year. That's the last time I get a birdseye maple neck. If it had a hard maple neck or even wenge I still would have owned it. It was a great bass outside of the neck moving so much.

This has nothing to do with Nino's craftsmanship. He does superb work. It was my stupid idea to get a birdseye maple neck, not just fretboard.

Hey bass playing peeps,

I have a Warwick FNA '98. AMAZING BASS!!!, better than most of the expensive $$'s I have played etc. The only problem with it, is the strings need to be changed on it every 2 weeks to maintain the sound. I use yellow label warwick strings, so it's not that the strings aren't good quality. It still sounds good with old strings, but it amazes me how quickly this bass loses it's "shine"...................................................
I still love her though....ha. She has the best feel of ANY instument I've played, and I've been playing for 20 years... I have played other FNA's and they don't feel as nice.... Truley a keeper and a one of a kind!!!

I hate the fact that I keep taking out my other basses, but the "one" is just so comfortable, I keep going back to it like a security blanket.

Nothing wrong with my other basses, but I hate that they don't get as much use. Not the bass' fault, really.

My 1960 p is worth too damn much money. I've been gigging with it again and it kind of freaks me out to let it out of my sight. It plays so nice, is so light, and sounds so great that I just can't leave it at home. I wish it wasn't thief-bait.

The Warmoth J that I built last year is fantastic, but I wish I'd held out for a lighter body and put a nitro finish on it instead of poly.

My '78p is really heavy. I wish it was 8 lbs.

I wish my early 90s Stingray was as light as my 2003 Stingray. I wish someone would trade me a B-15R for my 2003 'ray.

I wish my upright chops were better.... I wish....

1. Poly finish;
2. 21 frets;

Just like even the most amazing Baywatch babe has gotta have grungy toenails or something, your favorite bass probably has one single feature that just barely keeps it from being the perfect bass.

Whenever I hear the sound of my treasured MM~SR~HH4 or ~HH5 basses, I sigh with great relief that my search for 'the tone' is over. They sound amazing, record like monsters, and feel like a part of me. And they're both drop-dead gorgeous...

...except for that %#$@%$ one single dorky-ass tuning key hanging alone under the headstock. Did Leo Fender use the CBS money to get super drunk? What possible logic could have led him down this kooky path? It's the only flaw on my otherwise perfect basses.

LOVE my first bass, a MIM Fender Jazz!! HATE that it weighs as much as a "ball and chain". Wonder if Big Brother & the Holding Co's bassist wrote that song about his bass, hmmm?

The only thing I dont like about my J-Bass is the fact that you have to crank up the gain (compaired to an active). The pickups seem weak, i fixed this with an eq pedal and now its fine. I also have a corvette and yes, the upper 'horn' looks like a shlong.

Rickenbacker 4003- I hate that I'm too afraid to try and adjust the truss rods because I fear I'll mess it up.

With my usual basses:
CB Ball 4: Heel is just a tad thick for my very small hands and I've worn the polyester fingerboard coating in some spots I'd play a lot.

Stambaugh 4: Wish I would have gotten the Pope 4 band. Kahler can be a pain to make adjustments.

Rob Allen Mouse 30: fun little bass. Kind of wish it had a few more positions on the fingerboard.

Rob Allen MB2 5 string: should have just gotten a 6

Rob Allen MB2 6 string: ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Conklin 6: amazing all around, but a tad heavy.

I don't like the way the tail piece on my Rickenbacker 4001 C64 is lifting up. By 2020 it'll be walking the same path on the moon as Neal Armstrong and Buzz A.
