What do you think about bands without bass?

Well, since two of my favorite albums of all time -- Tim Berne's Fulton Street Maul, and Minature's I Can't Put My Finger On It -- don't have any bass on them, I guess I'm not opposed to it. But I also wouldn't use those two albums to make generalizations about what playing without a bass implies. They just happened to work.

More often than not I guess I'd prefer a bass player. Wait, no, scratch that. More often than not I guess I'd prefer interesting, compelling music, and who gives a schidt what instrumentation it took to produce that music?

Funnily enough, a lot of my earliest self-schooling involved copping Doors 'bass' lines. Didn't even know they didn't have a bass player back then.

if in your band you have a hell of an Hammond player that can play the bass pedals as well, you wil never need a bass player. Check cats like Jimmy Smith,Lonnie Smith,Joey de Francesco or Tony Monaco as example!

It's not lacking to my ears.

I think we are too bass-centric here. I'm not surprised as Thor said, it's a bass forum.

I don't. I hear enough bass already. My ears are trained to listen towrds the low end.

Since I've been loving you by Led Zeppelin? it has bass. its foot pedals, but its still bass.
