so overall they are/were made to be cheap instruments?

i just thought itd make a fun toy, but doesent sound worth the money at all..

You could say that but they have a unique and very useful sound inspite of it.

Value is in the eyes and ears of the beholder...but I got mine for very reasonable prices back when.

Original Danelectros, like Jim's, did not have trussrods. The reissues do. The Hodad is a new style Dano, made in the late 90's early 00's and has a combination of Mosrite styling with Dano features. If you have a Hodad, it has a trussrod. I have a Hodad and the three pickup setup makes it extremely versatile. I also have a DC re-issue. Not as versatile but still a usable sound and extremely light:

Actually, they do have a trussrod but it's a solid steel bar and not adjustable.
