Just look alone at the obviously different response curves of the Eden XLT vs. XST series....
That might not be such a big difference, curves are not so much to search for the sound its more to split the crap from the useful.
if the spec says:
103 dB sensitivity what do you assum ?
probably that you habe 103 dB in the whole range of the speaker.

if now you see the curve having a bump of almost 10 dB between 700 Hz and 2khz wich reaches 103 dB @ 1 Khz what do you actually have ?
A Cab with only 93 dB sensitivity because you have to boost between the lower end and 700 Hz.
guess what you amp is all of a sudden half as powerful as it was just before you hooked up that cab.
Damned I got to get a stronger amp. =(((((

It is easy to model the curves in Eminence Designer, including the effects on xmax, phase plot etc. but I dont really know how the curve should look like for the application/sound I have in mind.
as flat as possible and if there would be curves around.....
you bet that the word of mouth spreads fast, and all the ones wich match up to a certain standart would be in the game and every one else it sou very quickly.
Or in other words if a company publishes the important specs, they show also that they re not trying to pull you over the table and that they are not affraid of the thruth that means that theyr product must be good.
even if their curve isnt plus minus 1 db flat.
About flat curves:
I have to also say that a curves doesent have to be flat like a fingerboard,
but the overall response should be even.
that means
no raising or falling curve for example from 50 Hz rising 15 dB to the other end.
little short bumps like waves is normal as long as it is in balance with plus minus its good.
No pot holes or speed bumps.
it also depends how it was measured.
Also, allways keep in mind that the range of a bass 4 string is only from 40 to 400 Hz plus overtones so if you look at the curves of the Phil Jones 6 speaker combo, thats a acceptable curve. the problem there is
300 watts and only 90 dB isnt really going to work exept
for dinner music. But that is what It was intendet for I guess.
for 6 *5" cones it is goes pretty low. that means probably long throw drivers Looks like its good for upright. and 4 string I would of course try my 6 string on it but I can tell you with certainty the limits will show very quickly.
The low end is falling about 6 db per octave wich is still boostable
there 2 small peaks but those are less than 4 db. and in useful places. so the overall picture tells me not bad worth to take a closer look.
you could say this is flat (even) enough.
now If I would not see thw curve,
the 40 Hz to 20 Khz would be totally missleading.
because there is a standart wich is says @ the - 3 dB point it is where it ends because from a curve falling with 6 or more dB per octave you wont hear much after a octave or two from that point.
@ 20 Hz it is allready 30 db down
and @ 5 khz it is almost 10 dB down.
mow I rather have, in this case 90 dB, till 65 Hz and Low cut at 40 Hz.
that will give me a very clean low end, raher that boosting 6 dB and then low cut if that is possible.
that would technically make more sense.
