What do you think of this PA??

I have a five piece band which consist of:

Drums
Keyboard
Sax
Guitar
Bass
4 - Vocals

I was looking at this system from Yamaha.

I like the option of powered speakers, and the 16 channel mixer looks pretty good.

Although, I cannot find these speakers on Yamaha's website.

We play 4-5 gigs a month in small to medium sized clubs and some outdoor parties. I still would need to get floor monitors.

Up until recently I had the 20 channel powered version of tha tmixer and it was very nice. Can't comment on the speakers.

Perhaps you should look at the poered mixers and get some passive speakers.

I don't think I'd go for a mixed package from any onine music site.

Yamaha makes nice mixers, but I dont think you're going to get much volume, or much low end from that system. If you're just amplifying vocals and sax and maybe some kick and snare, it'll be OK.

We have a similar Yamaha mixer and it works very well, although we're getting ready to sell ours because it accommodates only one mix to send to our monitors; we want to be able to send a different mix and volume level to each monitor. If that's important to you, make sure the mixer can do it.

The Yamaha mixers are a great value. Big fan. However, I'd balk on the no name speakers - most likely crap. Don't skimp on speakers, you'll regret it and they will do more for your sound than the mixer quality.

In other words, I'd get a cheapy Behringer mixer and better speakers before I'd do that package.

I did a little searching on the OSP brand on the pro audio forums. Junk, junk, and junk.

Now the mixer, on the other hand...I have used those before, and it's a great little board.

You'd be better off piecing together a system of quality components. That model mixer would qualify, for starters...just don't buy it as part of this package.

I'm not even sure the mixer will get it done for you. It's 16 channels but eight of the channels are stereo. Personally I don't like sharing one eq per two inputs.

And the speakers are junk. Are you planning to run the full band?

jmac's point is well-taken...think long and hard about the number of channels you need, add a couple for future expansion, and then buy a board that gives you that number.
