What do you use your Delay Pedal for?

the only delay pedals I use on bass are looping delays, so they primarily get used for creating atmospheric backgrounds, unpredictable "loose canon" accompinaments, or to fill a similar function/sonic space as the turntablist in a rap act. But occasionally I'll dial them down into the slapback range and use them for traditional echo effects...either a clean reverb-like ambience for solos, or overt rhythmic gimmicks a la Pink Floyd's ...uh, what's that tune on Meddle I'm thinking of?

One of these days is the song you're thinking of. That bass riff is not effected by any delay it's all synthesized and processed somehow, I forget, but yea, you can pretty much nail that effect with a delay.

Delay is cool, I've been composing songs with delay for about 4 years but I am starting to remember how much I love just a natural clean bass tone.

But I'll never part with my number 1 delay pedal the Ibanez DE7 that pedal has some magic. ease of use, cool design and cheap. I may buy another one sometime, got one for my guitarist and he loves it. I really liked the DL4 but it just has too much stuff. I would be interested in trying a Akai Headrush 2 sometime. Boss just put out a twin-pedal style space echo. It doesn't really interest me all too much though. I never had any luck with the boss delays.

Ambient type stuff. The first 30 seconds of this:

I tried to make as much finger noise as possible because it sounded nifty through said delay.
