I think one should always dress for the gig - a backyard party is different from a wedding, a punk band is different from country, etc.
I general, for myself, I generally try to look like I'm there to put on a show and not like I just came from mowing the lawn or whatever. A bit of "gigwear" so that, when I step off the stage, people can tell I'm there with the band.

The 90s was all about that No Fear gear among my peers.ah but the cargo shorts thing wasn't "in" until the 1990's, so you were ahead of your time!
