Current band does a mix of standards and r&b and we do black pants, white dress shirt, black tie. I'd like to do something a little less formal, but I don't trust three of the guys to Dress themselves for a gig if left to their own devices

This, pretty much (sans the Harley). It was the early '70s; we were all young GIs, stationed overseas. When not in uniform, this is what just about everybody wore - except the vest. That was my trademark...
Jeans and black shoes or steel-toed boots in the winter with a button down shirt. Cargo shorts (flame way) with a tee-shirt and sneakers in the summer. I had a heat stroke about ten years ago that did a shocking amount of damage so when the weather is hot I wear lighter clothing. I no longer wear the hat depicted in a few of the pictures since my hair is long enough now that it's past that horrible in-between stage.
Depends on the gig and who the BL is. Cover and sub gigs I'm usually jeans and an appropriate shirt, but for my punk reggae originals band...

I play in originals bands that vary between blues and rock-type songs, so what we wear may be different from what other genres call for.
I tend to dress a little on the nicer side, so if one article of clothing is casual, I try to wear something nicer to offset it. So faded jeans and T-shirt with a blazer/sportcoat, jeans with a collared shirt, T-shirt under a Dickies shirt with nice jeans. Shoes are motorcycle boots, 'dress sneakers' or black leather shoes. If it's really hot, I will wear some comfortable, lightweight breathable slacks. The only self-imposed rules I have are: No shorts, ever; no jogging shoes; no Hawaiian shirts; no Crocs. I try and make that band-wide, or prohibit picture taking..

All shorts all the time. Never used to wear shorts, then I found out it sends some people over the edge, I like to send people over the edge!
Years ago, back when actually having to send paper mail was a thing, I used to put my stamps on just about any direction but the correct way. I heard somewhere one time that mail people hated it so, it seemed like the thing to do.

TBH, I've never gigged before so you might wonder why I'm answering this question. It's because the band I just joined is playing its first gig this coming Saturday and, for my first real gig as a bassist, I can tell you what I *will* wear.
We play classic rock, blues rock, and blues, only one song that's close to pop, and very little that's more recent than the 80's, and are playing at a nicer bar (not a dive). I'll be wearing a pair of light colored decent looking jeans (in good condition, not ripped or stained or etc.), a button down black shirt, and black shoes.
... that will probably all be soaked in an excessive amount of nervous sweat by the time the first song is over.

Black slim fit jeans (they stretch). Nice slim fit button down shirt black or funky pattern. Funky shoes. Can't go wrong. Never shorts for my gigs. We played a few outdoor shows this summer in Atlanta with heat index over 100. Same clothes. Just bring a decent fan. No excuses.

Kinda depends on the band but it is usually stuff out of my closet, denim, suede and leather usually.
No photos, but our jazz band tries to aim toward a 1959 jazz look--jackets and ties, decent shoes, maybe nice hat. We don't really reach that goal, but we'd love to evoke the look of Miles, Coltrane, etc.
