What does 16 + 8 ohms make?

Hi! Is it safe to run a 16 ohm cab and an 8 ohm cab together from a 4 ohm capable head?

Also, if so could I possibly get a diagram on how to wire 2 - 8 ohm speakers together to make a 16 ohm cabinet?

Yes. Both cabs in parallel present a load of 5.33 ohms, which is above the amp's 4-ohm minimum. Be advised, however, that the 8-ohm cab will receive twice the power that the 16 receives. So listen carefully to the 8-ohm cab; when it reaches its limit, you can't push any harder.

To wire a pair of 8-ohm speakers into a 16-ohm configuration, wire them in series. The input-jack's center conductor goes to + of one speaker, then its minus to the other speaker's plus, then out of that speaker's minus to the jack ground (sleeve) connection.

Unless I am wrong, that will result in a 5,3333333 ohm load.



To wire 2 8ohms to 16 total means to wire them in series.

(+in) to (+spk1), (-spk1) to (+spk2), (-spk2) to (-in)


If you don't have a grasp on what is series and parallel maybe ask someone to assist you irl. (no offense)
