What does a Warwick Streamer sound like?

I own a 1997 Fortress One and a 2006 Thumb BO. The Fortress has a maple body, like the Streamer. I am going to sell the Fortress because I do not like the thin neck. My mind was pretty much made up that I was going to get a $$ Corvette, but now I am wondering about the Streamer. Does this have a similar tone to my Fortress or does it sound more like a Corvette/Thumb? My favorite professional bass player (TONE-wise) is Dirk Lance from Incubus. He used a Streamer and his sound is MASSIVE, but I since found out that he used 2 complete tri-amp setups simultaneously! I am sure that has something to do with his sound. Does the Streamer have the thick neck profile of the Corvette and Thumb? Does it sound like a Fender since it is mostly maple? Thanks for your input, guys!

which streamer model?

In the case you're speaking of the streamer stage 2 (the one dirk lance used), models pre '08 will have a thick neck profile while the newer one (post '09) will have the same profile as your fortress. Dirk's tone is mostly the SS2 tone, his complex amp setup not being that influent in his tone IMO. Look at this demo to give you an idea.

You are right, the bass tone comes perfectly through without his wall of edens and dbx rackgear. I would be looking at the more affordable Streamers, though. The NT Streamers cost more than a decent old car! I am not sure, but I don't think the SS2 uses as much maple as the BO models. How did you find out about the neck profile changing and why would Warwick change it?

here's another sample on a streamer (the jazzman) that's nice because he goes through various tones it can deliver.

also, if you're looking for a more affordable streamer just goto rocketmusic.net they advertise on here and give a discount to TB members. i saw they give an amazing discount on the streamers that makes it about as much as a corvette.

Is Dirk's tone one of those "Well, if you want that tone, you can only get it with an SS2" things? Or is it more the wenge fingerboard? Or what?

I've been listening to more of the older Incubus albums lately and had forgotten how much I adored his tone. It's what started me playing bass!

The change in profiles came about because the customers requested it.There are now 3 profiles to choose from.fat(U) profile that came standard on all post 1998 & pre 2009 models.Slim(C) profile standard pre 1998 & extra slim,a custom shop option available from 2009.
All of this info is vailable on the Warwick forum & the custom shop info page.
Cheers,
Greg

I agree. I recently sold a SSII that I owned for a couple of years. The SSII has a unique tone that I've yet to hear on another bass (other Warwicks included). It's a full, powerful tone that cuts through the mix. It's not nearly as nasal or as harsh as a Thumb BO I had for awhile. The top end is smoother. The upper register has a sweetness to the tone that I cannot describe but sounds great for soloing. It's really a unique 'Wick that I think a lot of people would love but refuse to even give a chance because it says "Warwick" on the headstock.

Good description.
I had a Thumb NT before my SS2.Nice bass,but it's no SS2.
The SS2 is the ultimate Warwick in balance, comfort, tone, versatility & performance.
