What does retirement mean to you

I reckon I've got another 20 years grafting until I hang up my tools.

I'm looking forward to being able to do what I want, when I want, and hopefully to enjoy seeing my daughter live a successful, happy life with a great career.

And I want to paint. If dubya can do it, anyone can.

Retire-whati-ment?

Given the way things are going, not exactly looking towards some sort of golden end, the state pension age will no doubt be bounce back and pensions cut several times before I retire. I'm paying into a pension fund via work, hopefully that makes things reasonably comfortable. Just need to get on the housing market . . . hah.

I am retiring at age 55 in 3 years, and I can't wait!! :hyper:

I'm currently in 3 bands, so I'll probably look for another band or find some people that want to jam during the day. I'm also handy with renos...I build fences, decks, hang drywall, etc. I already spend a lot of time helping friends and family with their projects, so I'll probably volunteer somewhere helping seniors with handyman projects around their homes.

So far all I've been able to do is golf from two to five times a week and join a senior league, go to the gym, play my basses, refinish & mod some basses, ride my new bike, go out to eat with friends a few times a month, watch videos of my grandson, lose 120 pounds, cook real meals every day.

I know it sounds like I'm just wasting my life away, but feeling satisfied.

Right now, I'm 21 working at GC and just barely starting school so retirement seems like a pipe dream that might never happen if I don't get my poopie together quick.

FWIW, I would be happy with spending the end of my years in a decent house located in a relatively safe neighborhood with whoever ends up being my s/o, some pet rats, and a few good basses. Assuming my genetic predisposition to fibromyalgia and arthritis don't ruin music for me.

I look forward to spending hours wood shedding. Writing music and fiction, blogging, spending more time with family, helping the poor and other spiritual pursuits. I also told my wife I would have a lot more time to work on our house, she really liked that.
Right now I don't know how we are going to swing it financially but I have faith we will find a way when the time is right. We are debt free and do our best to live that way. I think that is a good start.

I'm not at that point in life where I think about what I'm going to do during retirement. I don't worry about because I have a lot of things going on right now. I'd like to retire early. I've the lost the urge for total world domination.

I hope to retire in 2 1/2 years. My plans are to keep buying and selling antiques on a limited basis and to spend more time with my wife. Bills should be at a minimum then, just utilities, food, and insurance, so our savings and retirement income should be enough to cover all our needs with extra for the "extras".
