Double Bass what does that belt do..?

i sometimes see people playing bass and they have a belt round the body of the bass.
why might this be..? i recall having some problems with feedback once and a mate pressing on ther back and front of my bass and reducing this... is this what it does?

What you are seeing is probably the belt that holds a bib on the bass. The bib is just that--a cloth bib the protects the bass from buttons, belt buckles, etc.

Ah, the emasculating "bib". I need to get myself a chain-mail or rawhide bib, which I will call "bass armor", so that I can feel comfortable in my manliness while using one. In the meantime I'll just use the "move the belt to the right" technique.

i wear a big t-shirt myself

as for holding the body of the bass... just something my mate likes to do i guess... strange what gives some people a kick..?
it did reduce the feedback though... honest... you'll just have to give me the benefit of the doubt for making the wrong link.
