What does the Darkglass Harmonic booster actually do?

It is an eq and the character knob is just a pre-scoop thing you can bring up. I use it second to last on board that ends in a b15 style pre. Great sound, but not a whole lot of detail when you want a delay or whatnot. Step on the DG and now all the detail is back and my sound is “modern”.

I know it's supposed to add "harmonic richness" to your sound and all, but I've been playing through one for a few months now and I can't hardly tell the difference. The most I seem to be able to hear from it is just another EQ/preamp pedal. Have any of you actually been able to hear the 'harmonic boost' it's supposed to give?
it totally boosts harmonics… and i assume in the range specified by the eq dials. i love mine and it just brings a bass to life.

how are your strings for life? hard to boost harmonics that are lacking from old strings. the pedal effect to me is very obvious (could be my settings also).

The Harmonic Booster “boosts harmonics” using EQ shaping. The Character control blends in an EQ curve that cuts middle midrange and tightens up the sub bass to a degree in a way that then favors upper midrange frequencies, which is where edgy harmonics live. The Harmonic Booster doesn’t distort the signal at all, it’s just an EQ.

It will also boost everything (cleanly); there's quite a bit of gain available in the "boost" dial.
