heavyweight bass heavyweight tone
Holy crap. You either have a strong back or a good stool.
There seems to be high stress (no pun intended) on bass weight; try selling, for example a 4 string that weights 9.75 lbs!
8 lbs or less range seems to be desired by people, which is fine, but i wonder if there is too much importance put on this.
In my experience, the most enjoyable basses are based on these factors, in descending level of importance
1)good tone
2)good balance
3)comfortable neck
4) overall weight
While you can always modify the heck out of an instrument, generally #1 and #3 are a given, and #2 is really difficult to modify without weights/drilling strap buttons etc. And to me, if the first 3 items are good, then #4 can be solved with a super wide strap (3.5" at minimum) except for those folks with severe back/neck health issues.
Sure, I wish my Roscoe Beck V was lighter and had a slightly differnt neck profile, but the tone is so superb that it more than offsets any weight concern
