What effect is this?

Well I know what will be blasting from the radio all Summer long. The new Justin Timberlake song is pretty dang funky, if I do say so myself! I'm digging the bass line in it but am having a heckuva time placing the effects used. It certainly sounds like a P bass with some type of octaver plus an envelop filter but not sure. What do you hear (besides funky goodness)?

I don't ear an octave but an envelopper filter for sure. Now what filter? That's the question. There's a million auto wahs around.

I liked the bassline so I gave it a shot, this is the closest I could get with my zoom B1on (I'm by no means an effects guru, I usually only use distortion).
Far from perfect, but that'd be close enough to me if I had to cover the song.

I stacked a bassman sim, a synth, a reverb, a talking synth and heavily scooped the mids at the end.

Dang! That's pretty close and would certainly pass if playing live. Thanks for doing that.

It's a super cool tone, I was curious what it is as well. Maybe there's a Mutron involved??? It sounds to me like there's an auto-wah effect as well as some kind of phaser or something doing slower filter sweeping sound. Maybe a subharmonic generator on it too??? It also sounds to me like a 4-bar loop that's been pasted through the song.

I just picked up the B1ON. Any chance you're willing to share the exact effects you lined up on this one?
Cheers,

I agree with the slow modulation.

Very flangery to my ears — a flanger set to an extremely slow rise/fall you won't notice the flanging, but rather just that delicious 'hollowness'.
