I find the Pickle to be *way* more extreme, and have a lot more deep bass too. It gets into fairly heavily gated territory, and can get pretty easily into virtually infinite sustain. At high settings w/ my active bass I get almost reverse gating, where the note starts out quiet and then blooms into full snarling volume.

I've never actually used a Big Muff but i get that same feeling with the Pickle. To be honest I prefer its high-end fuzz better. The Pickle likes to stand out on top, by itself and with no opposition. Really now that I think about it, you should make sure you have a distortion to pick up the low end slack. The Pickle is like a new bass, you gotta break it in and get familiar with it.

are we talking about Wren & Cuff's Pickle Pie B or Way Huge's Swolled Up Pickle? again, me, too important (LAZY) to go back a page. i liked the Way Huge one a lot, till i got the Wren & Cuff PPB. FACE. MELTER.

and the blend gives it WAY more range IME than the Dunlopian Way Huge 'un.

pedals. you can always throw something cheap together in an afternoon.

after thinking about it, since the Xerograph is modeled a bit on the Mutey Booty, an Oxide might do you better than a PPB. that thing is thick and gated in some settings already, but with a good filter after it? enough meaness to blow the puppies out of a pregnant feral malamute's womb.

ok. so I have $90 to spare, $130 if this ebay seller ever refunds shipping like they said they would. Should I just save for an oxide or buy something like a flanger right now? either way I'll have the oxide within a couple weeks; school's just ending which means summer work will start. = MAKING MONEY!

I'd be tempted to get a mutron flanger but I don't have $1500 to spare currently.

well, i was talking about a FERAL pregnant malamute. means it's undeserving of love. only cute things get that in the Americas. it's a rule.

i'm...... not the best person to ask on that. not a big fan of flangers.

but i DO love me some fuzz. and the Oxide is one of te bestest's. for sure one of the most versatile.

I'm a little concerned... I've been reading that fuzz + horned cabinets (which I have) aren't a good combination. How bad is it?

I'd recommend a fuzz, but active basses, solid state amps, and horned cabs are the trifecta of fuzz crapification. Using fuzz with that kind of equipment qualifies as user error, but most people can't tell their fuzz sound sucks like that anyways so it's up to you and your ears. Octaver I says. Try the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe.

This is the 2nd time today I've seen this guy saying you can't use fuzz or dirt with an active bass on one end and a solid state amp on the other. This is extremely his opinion, and not shared by everybody.

Of course, his explanation is that if YOU think that fuzz with an active/solid state setup sounds good, then there must be something wrong with your ears.

yeah, Mark Olson does some good stuff, seems like a good guy, but has a VERY different opinion on setups than i do. the difference is i try to say "what i like is" and Mssr. Olson usually goes more the "if you're doing it different than i like it's CRAP". dunno if i agree with that.

NoSnoDaysGAWD - no problem using solid stats with fuzzes. some peoole prefer tubes to be pushed by fuzzes, but you can get some massive angry TOANZ with SS too.

do you like the way your horns sound clean? i don't like horns on cabs, all three of my gig cabs have them and i leave them turned off. SOMEtimes a fuzz can overpower and fart out a horn. depends a lot on setup, how loud the horn's turned up etc. i used to have a Devi Ever Super Massive Black Hole that just DESTROYED tweeters.

but i wouldn' be worried. you just might have to adjust some settings.
