What Features Do You Tend To Avoid When Choosing A Bass?

Weight - 9.5lbs is about it for me
35" Scale

Satin necks. Give me gloss.

less than 24 frets is a bummer for me
any bass with a pick guard (appearance, don't use a pick)
fretboard dots (when possible)
a pickup too close to the neck for popping
glossy necks (my thumb sticks to them)
bridge saddles that share strings

The only thing that's an immediate deal-breaker for me is a warped neck, I'm just not into that kind of work. Anything else is changeable, fixable, or part of the bass's character that I'm willing to deal with for the tone it has.

I'll try darn near anything; I even pick up P-basses now and then although I determined long ago that I'm not a P-bass kind of guy. I figure one day my tastes might change, though, so I keep trying old-school classics even while my eye is drawn to knob-laden, multi-stringed, exotic wood/carbon fiber/laminate, headless, midi-equipped whatevers.
