What first: Explore the world, or your own country?

I'd love to explore the world. I'd like to see the rest of my country. But, heck, there's places in Texas I haven't even seen yet!!! And, with gas prices being what they are, and air travel having become an extended nightmare, I think exploring Texas will do fine for now.

I'm not clear why it's an either/or question. Travel is travel and a great way to learn and grow.

Covering your country end to end makes you knowledgeable about your own country. Travelling thew world gives you a broader perspective of the world and how different we all live.

Well, personally I would love to travel the world. But there's still a lot to the my country just a hop of the border. So I don't know if I could call say Alaska my country compared to my home in the San Francisco bay area. I'd imagine things are a bit different between the two and the same can be said for China, Japan, Russia, England, etc... I remember being in Vietnam once with my friends relatives and we basically toured the country. We spent most of the time in the main capital of Saigon or Ho Chi Minh as it's been dubbed by the government. Here it's a fast small city. So much is going on within 30 yards of you it's amazing. Go out to the country side and it's completely different style. The agriculture based communities, the collective people working together to support themselves, and just a lot of the spiritual things like religion and customs can be vastly different then an urban city dweller.

I'd like to explore my home country. But sadly, I'm afraid a lot of it might be the same. It really bugs me whenever I go to a town I've never been to, and the only places available to eat at are the same I find at home. What's the fun in that?

Although my recent trip to Pennsylvania allowed me to try some regional candy (notably Mallow Cups). I was also hunting like a mad man because I wanted some 50/50 but any of the stores I went into either didn't have it, or were closed. Granted, I probably checked in the wrong stores, but it was still disappointing because I very much love 50/50. I managed to pick up a 1 liter bottle of something similar in a Wegman's though.

But I would still like to see a some other countries before I die. Particularly Europe and Japan.

Doesn't that means 30% travelled abroad without passports... illegal emigrants...?

Wow... It's hard to believe only 20% having passports, let alone 10% going overseas. I always find it really strange when people tell me they have never been overseas. Traveling the world is something that I am very used too, it's been happening in my family well... since before I was born! Some of my friends have never even been on an aeroplane. Now THAT is weird!
