My First Baby was a Rick 4001 still have her today and a Bassman 4X10 which I also still own. 38 years later Weeeeeeee........
Summer of 2000, right before I started HS. My mom bought me my first bass and amp. A used Ibanez GSR100 and a used Peavey Microbass combo. The combo sees regular use when I'm practicing at my computer, the bass rests on a stand in my bedroom.
Ibanez GSR200, Gear4Music Hardshell Bass Case and my trusty Gear4Music 25B. Altogether came out at £227 back in 2007. Still have it all, but i have a better bass now.

My very first bass was a Danelectro copper double cutaway (my second bass was a '61 sunburst Fender Jazz).
My first amp was a brown Fender Concert 410 (my second amp was a blonde Fender Bassman 212).

Ibanez GSR200 & Acoustic B20 amp for Christmas last year. Wanted to go inexpensive until I was sure my midlife crisis would last longer than most peoples' New Year's resolutions.
I remember 8th grade (2004-2005). My dad bought me a MIM Fender Jazz in sunburst. I really wanted a P Bass but the neck was too uncomfortable for me to play so I settled for a Jazz (tonal variations didn't really mean much to me at this point in my life 
) Didn't have an amp, played through a Squire starter pack guitar amp. The MIM is still my main bass since I'm not bonding too well with my TRB-6II (Killer bass, my fingers are just so freaking small). I'm no longer playing through a guitar amp though Rocking a Berg AE210 and a Shuttle 9!! Thanks dad!

I started playing electric bass in '99 my freshman year of high school. First bass was an Epiphone Expert 6 string bass, first rig was an old 1980's Peavey Series 400 head with a 2x15" cabinet of the same vintage. The head was beyond repair and had some awesomely bad distortion going on, which fit well with my first hardcore rock band. I payed $550 for the bass from a music store that was going out of business and bought the rig from my first guitarist for $100. Ahh, memories...
Peavey TNT100 and Cort P Bass. First effect was a Maxon AF9 which I bought for cheap (later on I realized it was probably stolen, oops), which I thought was crap and which I sold at a very low price. Later on I found out it was an expensive sought after pedal. Oh well.
My very first bass was a halfway decent Harmony Jazz copy in metallic red, with blocks and binding on rosewood, matching headstock, and p/j pickups. All I had to plug into back in those days was my guitar amp... on old Zenith console stereo with a 1/4" mic input. This was probably around '86, and that bass didn't stick around very long.
My first bass amp was a Peavey Microbass, but I found it completely useless and quickly sold it for a silverface Bassman 100 and matching 2x15 cab. By that point, I had already acquired a Gibson Grabber, and the two sounded quite "ratty" and fuzzy together. In a good way.

Actually, I was working sound for a 3-piece Grand Funk style group, and the bass player was killed in a car accident ... I had a little guitar background (6 string), and we needed a bass player immediately, so I took over ... the year was 1971-72, and I had a sunburst 1966 Fender Jazz, oval tuners, dots, no binding, with Fender flats, and a SUNN Colliseum head with two Vega 1-18" bottoms ... I had made the cabinets, but looking back I am sure that they were not tuned properly ... I sold everything a couple years later, when I went into the Air Force ... best I can remember, I think I got about $750bucks for everything ... oh well ... hindsight is always 20/20 ...
