What gear makes you look old?

is a walker considered gear?

I remember seeing Robert Fripp with the "League of Gentlemen" - many years ago and they all sat down to play - which was weird - at the time, I was a young whippersnapper and thought it made them look old - but now I feel that Fripp has aged better than I have!! :p

hahahaha no it doesn't. Gibsons... ESPECIALLY Grabbers(but also TBirds), are extremely saught after by younger indy hipster bands.

Also... c'mon... old dudes can't lift RD Artists to play anymore anyways.

gibsons are sought by younger hipster guitarists, they all crave the rickenbacker, i own a stingray myself and played on a ric recently, it sounded gorgeous but i couldnt get the image of young suburbanites out of my head, it was horrible the bass sounded like rich kid to me! i worked half a year for 5.25 an hour, which was a dollar and a half under minimum wage at the time at a job with a COMPLETE sack of crap for a boss to get my bass, and these kids these days with their rickenbackers and their ipods!

i think running off stage for a piss every four or five numbers is a dead giveaway of your age, plenty of sweating and no booze before the gig will alleaviate(?) this so would a catheter(?) or colostomy bag, hence the baggy jeans and shirt.

Reminds me of a story someone had posted on this forum a few years ago about an alcoholic guitarist who wore leather trousers so he could piss himself on stage without anybody seeing it...

Your gear can definitely make you look old. I'm still relatively young and sometimes jam out with some "old" dudes (40s is extremely old to me).

Here are some things to keep in mind:

- Old dudes rarely use effects

- Old dudes don't understand digital

- Old dudes are really into sunbursts

- Old dudes' straps are beaten up

- Old dudes wear bright shirts

So do the opposite of all of the above and you'll be fine. :D

I guess I would be considered old (46) that's like 70 in rock and roll years. My hair is almost white. The other guys in the band are the same age and have grey hair. We have an unwritten rule about stage wear. We avoid "business casual."

No shorts
T-shirts to a minimum (gotta have sleeves and no wife beaters!)
Hawaiian shirts ok (subject to review)
Long sleeve shirts preferred (usually untucked, but neat and pressed.)
Jeans (no skinny jeans or ball splitter tight jeans)

Thread = Fail

Honestly, has anyone ever been at a show where someone came up and said "wow, you are playing thru a 70's SVT with an old beat up Jazz, you must be old!" I know kids in their 20's using vintage gear cause it's cool.

The title should be changed to "What makes YOU look old?" As most of the responses have been about grullets, mullets and bald spots. :rollno:
