Probably the worst IMO is old guys trying to look like young guys. I'm in a band with a buch of guys that all first played together in 1977 as sophomores in high school. It's funny to look at pictures from over the years - hair, spandex, gear - and imagine trying to do that now. It definitely wouldn't work!
That said, you can look your age and still be cool. Agree with the hawaiian shirts, mullets, dockers, sandals, etc. Some things may not be avoidable, but are definitely uncool: clip on sunglasses, reading glasses, elbow/wrist wraps, extra wide straps...
What works - jeans (black or blue, not too tight or loose), long sleeve shirts with sleeves rolled up over a tee shirt (not white).
Mainly, look comfortable in your own skin, however wrinkled or stretched. Own the stage, play great and have fun!
