I'm a jazzer, just curious what the poll results would be...

More an RnB guy myself (such as it is in Oregon), with a sprinkling of classic rock (ugh) and when I’m up for it jazz

Not much on country (although commercially was rather successful at it, never felt like I belonged in that world), opera, metal, hip hop or classical. Prefer jazz, Motown, soul, rock or a combination of those elements. The early '70's soul jazz is my favorite. (Think Barney Miller's theme).

We play most of those genres, keeps me on my toes.

For a long time I was playing syncopated funk and then joined a rock band. It took me a couple of rehearsals to get used to playing straight eights without swinging them, that was an odd sensation.

plus funk, folk, soul, Latin, afrobeat, bluegrass. (Some of which could certainly be considered subcategories of what you listed.) And for some, not all subcategories (I don’t really dig bebop, for example.)

I'll play pretty much anything but metal and rap. I don't even mind one or two of those throughout a whole set. I just can't deal with either all night.

Everything else is on the table.

Ambient is very fun to me after a while. But I'll do it with the right group.

I can't imagine a bass guitar in real opera but I'll give it a whirl.

i voted for a bunch of them because i play them (or have played them: for money), but then i switched/changed to simplify: because everything i play these days is informed by my jazz background...i cannot lie! so i ended up voting "jazz."

but i like 'em all!

I listen to a lot, and have played a few oddball styles in a few oddball situations …

… but I mostly play my own material, and that all comes out metallic.

Depends on the gig. Mostly “pop” I suppose but it gets pretty mixed up. Pop, rock, funk, blues, funk, R&B, disco, reggae, merengue, jazz and others - I get (or used to get) to play them all on a fairly regular basis).

Electra (later ones were branded Electra/Westone) X700JB (guitar version was called “Futura”), from the Matsumoku factory in Japan in the early ‘80s (no surprises there).

I play in a surf-rock band. Though rooted in surf, we add elements of jazz, bossa nova, punk, ambient and metal to keep it interesting for both the players and listeners.

I play in an alternative rock/punk band covering everything from Alkaline trio, through to Biffy Cylro & Queens of the Stone age.
At home I also enjoy playing heavier stuff plus some funk.
