what gets louder

Correct. Orange basses are very loud indeed, as are orange tuxes.

Going from 1x10 to 9x10
Would be the same as going from 100W to 1000W
If there was any speaker that could actually handle 1000w and correctly scaled it output in reference to watts driving it.

Smaller high powered amps with relatively small speaker cabinets seems to be the current trend. Even for big concert sound systems. They seem to carry less speakers and more amps.

just a question because i overheard 2 people arguing today but what makes a bass louder, more speakers or more wattage???
To vastly oversimplify, usually more speakers. That's because every doubling of driver count doubles the efficiency of the speaker system, to a maximum of roughly 25%. Since a single driver runs on average with 1.5% efficiency that's a lot of drivers.

i guess you guys didnt understand me, to rephrase my question. what would be heard better at a gig somebody running 2 2x12 at 200 watts(because of the amp & ohms) or 1 2x12 running at 400 watts
