The D Lakin website is down. Is that all it is? or is there trouble with the company? I've been seeing his basses at a few online stores. Are they changing their direct-to-consumer format?

What happened to D Lakin?

D. Lakin is one of the founders of Lakland Basses. His basses are now marketed under the Lakland brand.
The luthier I've been working with lately is the former head of production of Lakland. He left to open his own shop. He had a D. Lakin bass for sale that I asked him about and he told me the story. This guy still does overflow work for Lakland when production is backed up.

I thought Dan Lakin had nothing to do with Lakland anymore. I thought that was a bad split too. He started D. Lakin basses after leaving Lakland. They only started shipping D. Lakin's this year (maybe last.)
I am sure its just an IT thing. He split off to do D Lakin and I'm pretty sure are selling really well. I doubt there's issues.
Yep, I got an email from CME just a couple days ago--they are just starting to carry his basses. So presumably the company hasn't gone anywhere.
Cool, I know Kevin a bit from his Lakland days. He worked on a friend's bass just recently and did a superb job.
Right, Dan is not with Lakland--the poster was talking about a former Lakland luthier. That said, Dan's departure from Lakland wasn't really acrimonious. He and John Pirruccello, who runs Lakland now, have been friends since childhood.
The bassist in that horridly mediocre movie "Ricky and the Flash" played a D Lakin bass. I can only hope the bass was better than the movie (it was a concession to the GF - not my idea, I assure you!)

In all honesty I think the Ambassador thing basically killed them here on the TB. Pretty much all the treads discussing them got shut down for (fear of) shilling.

Very true. A little knowledge of TB culture would have gone a long way.

Bass Central added some D. Lakin basses to their inventory, so i doubt they have already gone under...
