Double Bass What happened to the 4 string Classical Contrabass Guitar?

It has occurred to me that we have No Dialog here on the
4 string Classical Contrabass guitar.

I have also noticed that I don't see any production models on the market.

I have seen 6 string Contras at McCabe's Music Shop in Santa Monica California. They have about a 28 inch string measure and look like a Classical guitar. Tuned EADGBE one octave below a standard guitar with similar strings. Never saw a 4 string.

I was drafted to play a six string classical bass guitar in an ensemble for a semester in music school back in the late 1980's. As Chuck mentioned, it was tuned an octave below the standard classical. I don't remember much about the instrument or the repertoire we performed, but I did have a lot of fun.
