My friend and guitarist recently bought an Akai finger drum machine which does a lot of other cool stuff as well, but that's another story. Anyway today he was laying down a beat against a 4/4 grid but he accidentally hit modifier that from what I could tell triplet divides everything-for example if you wanted a quarter note triplet, you would hit this button and it would divide that beat into a triplet. The overall effect was that although the beat was in 4/4 according to the machine, every note value was now divided into it's triplet form, so I was feeling this music in groups of 3's rather than 4's, and I was feeling pretty confident that if you ever did intentionally write music like that you would probably just change the time signature at that point (My guess was 3/8?). Anyway anybody got big brain theory on this?
