what have you "ragequit" in real life?

I got so sick of working 10 hour night shifts 6 days a week on the ambulance last year I called dispatch a half hour before my shift one night and said "I'm not coming in tonight or ever again." When they asked me if I wanted to talk to a supervisor I said NO and hung up. I guess someone else did a similar thing not long after and now it's known as "Pulling a (my last name)" :)

So, work, relationship, friendship, band, etc... lets hear them.

I did so with a band that I was in about 2 years ago. I was playing with them for about 4-5 months and just got fed up with their attitudes. I'm laid back and easy going basically, these guys were so uptight and perfectionistic (??) that it got to the point where I couldn't stand it anymore. You had to dress a certain way, sing a certain way, play a certain way, even at the end of the night I was "forbidden" to help pack everything up because I was "too new to know how everything should be put away"...
Eventually they started even trying to control my bass tone - where one guy would reach over and start playing with the knobs on my amp without asking me. That was the end. I finished that one last gig then told them to F off basically. The kicker is that they weren't even good enough to have an attitude like they did, they were average at best.

I rage quit (more or less) my first job.

I was 17, working in a supermarket. My manager was taking the proverbial. The thing that broke the camels back was that I was in the final year of high school and she thought it was ok to up me from working 16 hours to working 29-35 hour weeks (each night after school, all day saturday, alternate Sundays). When I asked to have my hours cut back to what they were when I started, I was told that new members of staff were expected to show a keen interest and were basically obligated to take extra hours they were given. I handed in my 2 week notice after having only been there for 5-6 months. She told me that I wouldn't have made it past the probationary period anyway (your first 12 weeks . . .).

Anyways, the week after handing in my notice, I said I was taking a night off. I was told I couldn't have it off, I repeated myself, saying I was taking it off, not asking for it off. Took the night off, went to a gig, came home to a message on the answering machine asking why I wasn't in. Went to work the next day, was sent straight to the head managers office, who proceeded to start about how I should have been in work bla-bla-bla-instore bakery unattended-bla-bla-bla. Simple response to him was "What you going to do? Fire me?" and out I went (was kinda fun getting to be a **** after their BS of the past 5-6 months! Maybe not fully rage-tastic though).

While I don't have a problem working min-wage jobs, I'd never be back at a supermarket again. The management seem to see themselves as mini-tyrants, not going to see eye-to-eye with that, ever!

I did this at exactly one job and with one band.

The job for the sole fact that the night supervisor was gunning for me, purely personal vs.work performance. He was a weasely jerk anyway, who had taken upon himself to try to "make example" of me a couple times and was sufficiently shamed when I proved him wrong, hence the later constant leaning on me...last straw was him placing a hand on each shoulder to try to "march" me back to a stockroom (in front of customers of course) and as soon as we cleared the double doors I shoved him into a wall, explained to him exactly which definition of dickhead applied to him and was done with it.

The band was just over a year ago. I understand the difference between hired-gun and contributing member. The line was blurry at best and ignored at worst by the bandleader, simply because if the role was defined I would either a) actually get paid consistently per job or b) in leiu of getting paid, have a say in the creative process. Neither was happening regardless of repeat inquiry, so I fire off a short concise f-you and call it a day. I hate being "on retainer" when my role is not defined, and losing opportune gigs to another doof who would otherwise be a willing puppet and work for free. I hate games. Especially when they involve not hearing anything for months and then "hey, learn these new songs and wait".

I'm not in the habit of burning bridges as it's not how I operate, but these two had no other proper response but thorough 'esplodez.

I did it while in school. When 3rd year of ~high school started, we had a new maths teacher. He was doing a horrible job of explaining the why of differential equations, to the point where I upped and left about one month into the semester.

Worked as a TV repair guy for a year and then came back to a much better class.

Did that with online gaming. I'm a laidback guy who always intensely does his best. So basically, happy and carefree but serious when down to business. Nevertheless, I'm there to have fun. People online were such dicks to such an extreme no matter where I was playing that I decided that I just couldn't stand people, period. Basically told everybody in the room a huge F.U. and then left never to play again. Probably one of the best decisions I ever made. No joke. lol! What a waste of time to put yourself in situations that are only going to cause you to go ape when you're supposed to be doing this to relax.

Quit an online forum like this one. It's a forum where members are expected and pressured into contributing financially... constantly. To be blunt, running a forum with their bandwith must've cost them almost nothing, yet the owner was pulling thousands in revenue from ads with big companies and contributing members. It wasn't an irregular occurrence to see the founder posting about this new Rolex he got, etc. For the longest time, his forum was the #1 source of info about certain items so by default people flocked to it, yet he ran it with an iron fist. His other mod minions were as ruthless. Finally, one of the mods was a huge Apple fan who decided to ban me for a month after I posted in a thread asking for advice on MP3 players that iPods are far from being the best sound quality the OP could get for the budget he had. After the month passed, I was supposed to beg to be readmitted, but instead I wrote them a huge F.U. and left it at that.

Now that there is a slew of forums, people vacated that msg board by quite a large number and only a few active posters are remaining. It's a very well-known forum, too.

I saw a guy ragequit the Army once, in country. That was pretty freaky.

Peace,
Greg

I wanted to ragequit so many times, along with many of my friends. We didn't want dishonorables though so we would "quit life" instead. When it became too much nonsense, we just laid face down on the ground and emptied our mind and just gave up on being a functioning human being for a time. It actually helped!

I'm a pretty low-key guy, a real "low reactor", so any RageQuitting I may have done probably doesn't even register on most people's RageQuit meters.

The one that comes imemdiately to mind is this crappy job I had for about 4 hours when I was 19 years old: I'd been unemployed for a while, was getting desperate, answered a classified ad for "audio sales -- we provide free training!"

Turns out they were selling cheap car stereos out of the trunk of your car, and the "training" they provided essentially consisted of bogus psychology to try to encourage total strangers ("unqualified leads" as real sales people refer to them) to come at look at the crap you had in the trunk of your car.

So I sit through this stupid 2 hour training class, and then they send me out into the field with one of their seasoned pros (sic) to see how it's done, and after watching this guy pull this inane schtick on people who had no interest in buying car stereo whatsoever, and especially not from some slimeball who wanted to show them something in their trunk, I said to Mr. Slimeball "Sorry, this job is bullsh*t, I'm outta here" and I just walked away.

...so not so much a RageQuit as a RationalQuit!

I used to work at a call center, after a week there the manager came up to me and told me I had too much idle time. I had 5 minutes of idle time in an 8 hour shift, I told him I went to the bathroom, and he told me I couldn't. I walked out and never went back.

I also used to work at a burger joint, doing grill. They basically had me doing everything though, and would not let me take breaks or anything. One day I was grilling some burgers, and the manager who used to walk around like hitler was yelling at everyone. He came to me and yelled to hurry up. I told him there was only so much room on the grill and that the burgers need to be properly cooked, so I can only do so much so fast. He berated me in front of the staff, customers , everyone for 5 minutes. I took off my apron handed it to him told him to do it himself and quit. He whined that I couldn't do that, so I told him to watch me.

I managed a Famous Footwear store in the worst mall on earth. My district manager was the worst, always making problems for me, etc, blaming all sorts of things that were out of my control on me. We had a problem with people stealing shoes, but he wouldn't let me put the detector tags on them, even though we already had the tags, and the sensors installed. I was really unhappy, but trying to make improvements in the worst store in our district.

One day he came in for an audit, which included counting the drawer. He came back to my office and accused me of stealing $100 out of the till. I went up front, counted the drawer. He forgot to count the $5 bills. I walked back to my office, told him to **** off, and that he miss counted the money, and that I was done. I walked out of the store that day, didn't say a word to any of my employees, etc.

I have almost rage quit college, but now being 1 class away from my bachelors makes me feel it wouldn’t be worth while to do so .When dealing with financial aid or getting credits evaluated for transfer I feel there is a mess of paperwork and people that pass the buck on. I have spent hours running around getting signatures and meeting with people to get granted access to one class, its BS. To top it off the head guy at the registers office is a **** ******.

Seriously though, I may choke the guy at the registers office out next term.

University admin staff certainly seem to have a higher proportion of a-holes!

Yep, it has not been the professors but the Administration that has really pissed me off to a point where this has really soured my whole college experience. I am a transfer student so credits from another college didn’t mesh well and it’s been a headache to get it sorted out with no help from administration and actually way more stress because of them. If I was graduating on time I would have been done 2 weeks ago, but I have another 5 months because of all my transfer crap.

Must not choke any adminstration staff:hiding:
