What head goes with this amp

I tried that cab with a Hartke lh500 hooked up to one and it sounded really good. I ended up with a hydrive 410 because it was lighter.
sweet thx man. and after looking at some heads i think ima go with the peavey tour 450 bass amp head.

i thnk tht would work well as long as i dont turn up the cab to much and should still give me plenty of power.
i thnk it would be better than the fender rumble 350 head.

I didn't like the head that much. Sounded cheap, for a lack of description. The tour series are nice too. I am a big fan of the new Hartke stuff though.
Why are you planning on getting that cab if you're not sure what head you want?
There are a zillion 4x10s out there... is this a price thing?

well the hartke lh 500 is 300$ shipped on amazon and is an amazing head. I have had mine for about 3 months now and gigged it probably 10 times and took it to practice a few times too. Its so loud through my 6x10 my guitarist had a hard time keeping up when i had the volume low i only had it on 1. and it sounds great better then any other head in the 300$ price range. The lh500 has something most heads in the price range dont a tube pre amp.
If you're going to buy the Peavey new, spend the extra $80 and get the Tour 700 - I think you'll be happier with a little more head room in the long run.
the hartke hydrive 4x10s handle 1000 watts if i remember right and they arent too far from the price range of cab you were looking at but if i were you id buy a used cab and a new head i have been doing it for years. I have an swr 6x10 that i paid 424 for at guitar center.
if you happen to find anything hartke at guitar center is going to be way cheap for some odd reason guitar center doesnt think hartke gear is worth all that much. I remember seeing a hartke xl 4x10 for 89$
Seems like many public rehearsal studios were equipped with Peavey Bass gear and I never liked the sound out of them thus giving me a permanent negative impression of Peavey. I just started lugging my own rig instead.
Only if you played it at ridiculous volumes for an extended period of time. Many people have heads or power amps that have more power than their speakers can handle (including me) ... it's a situation that is easily regulated with the volume knob.
you can get a good metal tone with any gear. I have seen guys doing it with fender j basses, fretless p basses, warwicks, ernie ball stingrays... you name it a metal guy has used it. But what really matters is a head with a good eq anything with a 9 band graphic eq would be perfect. Then you can really tweak all the sliders and eq it how you really want it. and from my experience peavey gear isnt bad its just heavy and built like a tank meaning it wont fail for a long time.
