What I like when it comes to amps...

I haven't yet fully decided on amplification. I would use Ampeg, but they're just too pricey. The supposed greatest bass amp manufacturer in the world, and they can't make anything affordable? Same goes for Mesa Boogie. I like Marshall, but those are for guitarists. I'd use Sunn had they not discontinued production (don't tell me to look on ebay, I can't be bothered). So, it comes down to Gallien-Krueger or Ashdown.

Although not many of my favourite players use Ashdown (except maybe John Entwistle, rest his soul), I feel that if they can make cheaper combos, and yet be a big name brand, then I suppose I'm in. I mean, sure, I've heard the bass guitarists of some of my favourite bands use them. (U2, System of a Down, Foo Fighters, etc.)

I'm definitely interested in GK because I saw some videos by WalBassPlayer on Youtube. I went to the website, and I found out Flea uses GK as well as Justin Chancellor. I also found out that GK makes some affordable stuff. I'm in.

And another thing, when it comes to amplification, I don't care what model something is, just as long as it's by that brand and it's affordable. They'd probably all sound the same or something.

Does anyone else think I'm making the right choice in choosing Ashdown or Gallien-Krueger?

You cant be bothered to look on Ebay for an amp that you would use?

There are many brands out there, not just Ashdown and GK. Yes Ampeg and Mesa are extremly pricey, because they are good. Ashdown are okay, I'm not really a fan of their tone. Why are you basing your opinion on amps just on who uses them? It may be true that none of your fav players use Ashdown, but why base your opinion on them because of that? You might actually like how they sound. Lots of my favourite players use GK, but I don't like them.

Check out all these brands!!! And this is just one store!

EDIT: Ampeg do make affordable products, look at their combo's.

Yes! Yes!

This is the way to choose the best amp! Pick by name and price! I think you're making the right choice by doing this and not looking for something used on eBay...I mean who wants a good amp at a good price anyway! Besides, if a company can't make a cheap amp for those of indiscriminating taste, who needs them anyway, right?

Please tell me you're winding us up!! :eyebrow: :eyebrow:

If you really "can't be bothered" to look on eBay, it might not come as too much of a surprise if we "can't be bothered" to help you. :hmm: :hmm:

Just my two pence worth and all IMHO as always. :D :D

I hope you're not being sarcastic. Because if not, I'm glad somebody agrees with me.

Ampeg makes asome great combos in the 300-500 dollar range...I have one...one of three or four different combos...

And as for going with the cheap end of a brand just because you like the brand.....I know first hand that thats the worst way to get an amp. GK backline series cabs suck, but GK is a great company. If you like the brand, save up and get the good stuff....

But you know, if I ever find a shop that sells GK amps for a good price, I'm going to test it out and see if I like it. If not, I'll give Ashdown a go. If that's not good either, then I'm not sure what I could use. I am NOT using Ampeg. Only rock stars can afford them.
