mr. stoopid, i have no idea what you are talking about. aquabats? huh? can you please throw me a friggin bone, here?
anyway, i read a lot of the posts. sorry to make this into a flame wars thread (almost). i would have to agree with angus on his opinions.
anyway, if you like bands like blink, knock yourself out. i just kinda think you're wasting your time and precious, precious eardrum health. as far as punk goes, i draw the line at the clash and nirvana. nothing more, nothing less. a whole genre that is proliferated with bands who spit in their audiances (damn, how do you spell audience again? i think i got it right the second time...) and sing songs about beating people up...wait i'm talking about 70s punk. anyway, pop-punk feels contrived and starved of substance or depth or meaning or any kind of stance on anything important. that said, blink had a good shot at something meaningful with "adam's song," but mark's songwriting skills seem lacking...e.g. apple juice, what the hell? then the band got redundant and more annoying with "man overboard" (the thing i remember most about that song is my friend impersonating whomever sings it with a real whiny nasal voice saying "so sorry, it's over"...still cracks me up).
anyway, rolling stone liked their new cd..gave it an eight i think...just goes to show you that different people like different stuff. no offense, but i just can't pick up a jaco cd at any given moment and "dig it." i kinda have to be in a particular mood to appreciate what he has done for (and with) our instrument. liking a certain band or genre shouldn't necessarily be limited to technical skill that the musicians have, however. nirvana is one of my fav. bands (my new favorate band being pearl jam) and none of the members really could "shred" like, say, cece deville, but that doesn't mean that cece wrote better songs. it all comes down to songwriting skills. if i don't think a band is particularly clever or witty or smart or....um....good i'll avoid it at all costs. many people who posted here (ok maybe like three) feel the same way. the lack of wit in the band that this thread USED to be about seems to be smack-you-in-the-face obvious. fart jokes, running naked, banana men (although that gouged a laugh out of me the first time i saw it), boy band impersonations, butt-rape (just look in the sleeve of dude ranch). after much criticism by myself and a friend, some friends became cognizant of the whole toilet-humor entertainment aspect and decided that their tastes are slightly more refined now....
anyway, how you want to ruin your ear drums is up to you
