Why can't the composer play?Orchestra are different since the composer can’t play he can conduct
Its interesting how polar opposite I am and a lot of the SoCal music scene is with what you saidI would be miserable. I love my favorite hits. People who go to bars live their favorite hits. People like to celebrate to music. It reminds them of good times. It tugs at their emotions in ways few other things can. I'm not opposed to originals. But I can't imagine a music scene with ONLY originals.
Call me crazy. But I LOVE playing a smash hit in a bar when the crowd is singing so loud I could stop singing and they wouldn't know it.
i think he meant that the same toons have been played for hundreds of years in some cases
I don’t know. I’m kinda partial to names that give no clue.i'm trying to imagine a cover band called kombucha budget, and i can't imagine what kind of covers it would play...

Cover bands do not get a lot of interest from the music scene down here
Personally I would never go see a cover band on my time off, let alone spend any hard earned money
FWIW, a lot (not all) of the venues wont even book you if your doing covers
Weird how your neck of the woods and ours are so different
Did the all originals thing for 9 years and couldn't get many club gigs other than open mikes.
It stands to reason, I suppose. Your area it the fountain from which a lot of original music springs. Even those who don't make a living in music are likely "involved" somehow.
Around here, it's lawyers, farmers and factory workers. It's Joe the plumber and Cindy the bank teller for the most part. They don't want to think about music. Sometimes they just wanna scream out Don't Stop Believing or Strawberry Wine. I'm happy to help them out with that.
Neither area is "wrong". Jisr different needs.
^^ 100% this ^^Neither area is "wrong". Jisr different needs.
I've never played in a pure cover band, and wouldn't want to.
This.Backing out the whole pandemic thing, I would have to 100% love and believe in the music, and when it stopped being fun I'd be out.
All the same I wouldn't give up my day job (such as it is), because that originals band won't even cover my kombucha budget.
It's not an either/or choice.I understand that for you your Time equal money. For me I prefer to feel happy and fulfilled
Or they might become creative from it.That'd put just about every symphony orchestra out of business...
I think that's going to be the name of my solo projecti'm trying to imagine a cover band called kombucha budget, and i can't imagine what kind of covers it would play...
It all depends on whether the music is any good. Too many people can't write good songs but play them anyway.
