What is a great bass combo under 40 lbs?

The GK MB212 combo comes in at 41 lbs. I guess that takes it out of the running.

This is probably the best bang for the buck if bang is watts and buck is weight. I don't there is a more powerful 41 lb combo out there. There might be but I don't know about it.

Look at the Gallien Krueger combos. Great quality, made in USA, California support directly with manufacturer. Excellent rep, and it's light and sounds excellent!

Keep the head, which weighs about 5 lbs. The Avatar cabinet must weigh at least 70 lbs, if not more. Sell it?

So what is your target weight? If you get another cabinet, it can likely be about half the weight of your Avatar 410. That's less than most of the semi-usable combos out there.

Thus, your Markbass 500 + a light good 212 or 115 = ~40lbs. That's as light as those wimpy combos and it is NOT wimpy, IMHO.

Don't forget your Jeep .. err … Range Rover. 4040 Pounds. Self Propelled. Desert; Savannah, or Jungle Swamp. Fender Rumbles will pull you through.

One of the reasons I got a Rumble 500 was because of weight. It's an awesome combo amp. Press the Vintage button, set gain, rock the eff out, and carry it off at the end of the gig in one hand.

The best use of your budget would be to keep the head (it's a good one) and get a neo cab.

There are Berg 210's that weigh 33lbs. Push the boat out and get a Barefaced 112 Super Compact at 21lbs or the Big Baby 2 at 26lbs. Aguilar, Genzler and AudioKinesis also make good light cabs.

There are a lot of light cabs on the market but I'd suggest a separate amp and cab because if weight is a problem an easier lift and carry will be important. Combos are invariable a heavier carry than separates.

there are some really fantastic, light-weight cabinets from companies like AudioKinesis, Barefaced (and others) that, combined with a small, class D head, will blow the socks off of any combo.

The Barefaced Super Twelve is a 2x12, 4 ohm cabinet that weighs 40 lbs, and has built in tilt and roll wheels. Use your current head with it.

I'm 71 and still gigging 15 times a month or so. What combo gives me a good sound and light weight? The Fender Rumble 200 and 500 come to mind, but I'm not hesitant to spend some money if need be.

I'm 68, going on 69 (January). Heavy hurts me, even though I can do it. Your temptation is to get a 500 watt Fender combo, and I totally get that.

One important thing to keep in mind is that the 500 watt Fender combo amps have a pair of 10's that present an 8 ohm load. The 500 watt rating is for a 4 ohm load. So yes, to get 500ish watts out of a Rumble 500, you also have to buy another Fender 8 ohm 210 cabinet. They weigh 38 lbs, and cost ~$400.

There are quite a few 112 and 115 cabinets that will equal or out perform the 210 + 210 Fender rumble combo "stack." IMHO.

Phil Jones suitcase is exactly 40lbs, if you absolutely must have a combo. If you are open to separating head and cab, there are a lot of great options out there.
