What is it about a maple fretboard P?

I don't own a Pbass with a maple fretboard but I will, eventually.

i pined for a maple board --- it's the last real GAS i ever had!

They look so good.

For what it is worth, I started my musical journey playing guitars back in the mid 60’s. Maple neck guitars were rare. When they did hit the market , they were largely on bolt on type necks and considered inferior to set neck guitars with rosewood or ebony finger boards. Even to this day I think maple necked instruments look odd.

However, I own a maple neck MIA Strat that I’ve had for 30 years now. It only took me about 7 years to wear through the maple finger board. Never again.

I don’t wanna start a debate on tone woods but to me, they have a punchy mid that cuts in the mix and they require no maintenance.

I think they look amazing! And have a CV P bass with one, but I do not like playing them. Same with guitars. My preference is Ebony, but a dark rosewood I can get along with as well!

Curious — is it a visual thing or a feel thing? Tone?

I was ambivalent until I got a maple with block inlay neck — could be the shape of the neck or the visual aspect or maybe the combo of PU, strings and neck, but that bass became my favorite. Then of course I had to tinker with it
