what is nato body?

I feel like I'm turning into a grumpy old man... Google holds the key to all your needs... I tried the search string "Nato body?" and was immediately rewarded by cool, clean information. As a useful aside, if you want to limit your results to Talkbass, you can add "site:talkbass.com" to your query to limit results to those found on this site. I mention this because I've found the integrated TB search to be... well limited is the nice way of putting it.

Nato is a wood that *some* people say shares some characteristics with mahogany though it is IME much lighter in color. The grain in the piece I have seen was not very distinctive. I have only seen the one sample that I know of but it seemed fairly meh to me.

I'm sure somebody here knows much more than I do - I'm probably just bored.....

"Nato wood, also known as Eastern Mahogany, is a reliable, strong wood used on guitar necks. It is a value-priced wood used more in the lower cost instruments. However, Nato still embodies all of the properties of more commonly used.... and more expensive mahogany. Not a bad wood at all for most ukes.... except the finest ones.""
