I'm getting a bass that has had a plejk service done on it, can anyone tell me what this is and whats its all about?
Oooooo. I just read about this somewhere. It is apparently a machine which your instrument is inserted into and it is able to set up your bass using much more accurate mearsurements than could be done by a human. I haven't seen any pics or vids of it in use but i am very interested in trying to find a dealer/tech that could hook me up with the plek treatment.
Will the Plek machine do setups on fanned fret basses?
I brought my Roscoe Beck V to be Plek'd last week, they told me it requires two sets of strings as the Plek machine "destroys strings". It remains to be seen if it will actually be Plek'd as the frets may have worn too much. I'll post here again after I get it back.
I would think that a neck woud have to be perfectly level (no bow) to do the grinding properly.

Got it back. Action was neither high or low, I use a light touch so I will probably lower the action a bit. The first thing I noticed after getting it home was a grabby / zippery feeling when bending strings in the upper register, mostly above the 12th fret. I bent the strings a back a forth a little bit and it seemed to lessen. So I continued to do it on each string and fret. After that they seemed smoother. They returned, unused, the second set of strings they asked for. They explained that occasionally the Plek machine will change the tension of the strings & they need a consistent tension for the Plek machine to be accurate. I need to play it for another week to decide if I feel it was worth the $200.00 It did need have some work because certain notes up high were fretting out,Do I feel a huge difference? No. Am I happy to have it back? Yeah baby!
