What is the best Hard Rock 5 String?

I think spectors have an amazing tone for Hard Rock

A used Czech-made Spector can be had for under $1000. I've owned 3, 2 neck-thrus and a Rebop. The most I paid was $750. They are my favorite choice for hard rock and metal. You will NOT be buried under an avalanche of drums and detuned guitars if you play a Spector IME. Unless you don't know how to set an EQ properly.

and I have looked into Laklands but I have been told they can really only be used for Jazz music

The bass player for Papa Roach has used Laklands on every major label release they've had. I'm not as big a Lakland fan as many on TB, but they can be used in hard rock and have been used with great results. You can use any bass you like for any style you like. Some are better at one or two genres than others, but they doesn't mean that any one bass can't be used for any genre/style. Don't limit your choices by writing off a bass before you've given it a fair chance.

I have a 4 string Warick corvette that kind of reminds me of a Rick though it has a great slap tone. That one has a Bart pre though but it had a great rock tone with the original MEC pre. Not sure what the rockbass version sounds like but I've read great reviews. I also have a Stingray 5 that sounds great in a rock format that also does the funk thing quite nicely. I didn't realize the EB MM Sterlings were that affordable.

Ho boy. Well, I guess I was wrong about there not being confusion about this. :help: :hiding:

Just so we are all clear, we are talking about the new import line of EBMM basses that cost around $600-700, not the EBMM Sterling which sells for around $1500. The bass in question is probably the Sterling Ray34, which is an import version of a Stingray.

Hey Talkbass peeps
I've been playing for 9 years now and I am looking into acquiring a new 5 string bass to add to my collection (if you can call it that).

I was thinking about either:
1) Tribute by G&L 5 String
2) The New Sterling MM Series five-er
3) Ibanez SRX 5 string
4) Warwick Rockbass 5 string (Streamer or Corvette)

As you can probably tell my budget is limited so I was wondering if i could just get some help from you guys.

Thanks

I have the OLP Stingray, the Tony Levin Sig model.... the Sterling by Music Man line kinda took there place I guess, note that I boldded the name.... don't want them confused with the actual Sterling bass music man makes!! LOL

I personally love the OLP... and you may find them on ebay, were I got mine, for around $350

Hope this helps
