What is the difference between these 2 body woods?

I've got a Squier VM 1970s jazz, soft maple body and it sounds fantastic. Even with the factory fitted roundwounds. I've got flats on it now which it seems to respond to even better, although I'm limiting myself to playing 60s/70s style stuff with a pick mainly. My fiancee reckons it sounds a million times better with flats on than roundwounds, so that's good!

My Ibby SRA305 has an agathis body, 3-piece maple neck, rosewood fretboard. It has good response, even tone, light weight, sustain until next Tuesday, and great playability. The only thing I notice about agathis compared to the "traditional" tonewoods is that it is not quite as "3-dimensional" in its tone, but depending on the venue and how it is run through the mixing board, that could actually be a benefit so it slots the mix better. I have it strung with GHS Super Steels in my custom gauges of 46-60-80-106-138 over the stock EMG HZ's, and it does the job gig after gig.
