What is your favorite bass strap?

A few months ago I went on another spree, because I realized that I hate straps with grippy backs. :sour::thumbsdown: Got me some nice Dunlop nylon, a couple of Get'm Get'm, but my current faves are the Souldier seatbelt web straps. Nice and slippery. :cool: Long too.

Five years later, and I'm still in love with my slippery seatbelt straps. Souldier still rules in my house!

They have XL versions and if you order the wrong length you're SOL and see if they care. They won't even SELL you an extension with the right length.

MMGSXL-2.5 Leather Strap Extension - Black - Sweetwater

Pretty sure that's the long one, and you can make the long ones shorter through creative threading through the slots ;). And you can also go aftermarket for another brand, and although it won't be an exact match, nobody can really tell.

Those might work, but were not available at the time and I ended up creating my own extensions from veg-tan leather.

Revisiting the email exchange I had with them, they told me that they were planning to reintroduce MMGSXL-2.5 but that it was not available.

I thought they could have shown some flexibility and offered a solution - I had four of those straps and was unable to use them.

I know what you mean. I had to get a couple long strap tails from elsewhere, too. The regular one is a tiny bit short for me, but it's at that point where it really irritates me after a few minutes. I can't hold my bass up high else I'm not comfy.

I suppose it got a little more corporate under Gator when they bought it a few years ago, but I can't complain about their CS. It's just that they walk a little slower than when the Levy family owned it.

I have a few so-so, but I love a humble DiMarzio Cliplock for my shortie (perfect for it, as it is not heavy at all), and I also wanted to praise and feature this lovely strap by Pinegrove Leather, as they are not a big company but make amazing straps-not too expensive either, relative to the bigger and pricier brands (mid-budget-I know one can spend way less, but the quality can't be questioned.)

Mine is only 3 inches wide, leather on leather, non-padded, and still is comfy, not super sticky, looks and feels great (they do sell padded straps as well.) *Very happy* with it, and married to this bass.

Those look like excellent straps and they use real full-grain leather (as opposed to the cheap "genuine" leather other companies use). Free shipping to the US too.

Excellent indeed-time will tell, but I doubt these can fail. The leather is solid, thick, and not cheap looking or feeling at all. In the case of those padded straps, I imagine they are super comfy for heavy instruments, as even my relatively "heavy" bass (should be less than 10 pounds, though feels "solid," so perhaps more than 9) does quite well with only 3 inches width and no padding.

Also like how the gentleman in charge thought about everything, and offers different strap tail lengths (I need short! Often companies make their straps too long *for my needs*), and the option to enlarge the holes for straplocks, which while not unique to Pinegrove Leather, is often missing in many standard brands.

As for shipping, mine was ordered late night in US, and shipped in England by late afternoon of that very day (I assume they had some ready to go, and just enlarged the holes.) The owner was very nice on e-mails and gently replied to my few questions by morning over there-6 days to arrive, and only due to a 3 day delay in US customs.

A+++ for me, can't complain about anything. They aren't too flashy, but other great brands aren't either. I like the "Gold Meteor" effect on mine. Definitely an excellent strap, even if everything else could do the job. The most comfortable and effortless strap I have, combined with the highest quality-at a more than fair price.

I was looking for a strap with a pick holder since I play fingerstyle, pick, tap and slap and don't want to rely on a mic holder or picks on my amp.

Options were pretty limited, and at first I was looking at the Gruv gear solo strap 2, but it's been out of stock in black since like October.

Got tired of waiting since we have a big show coming up, so I took a leap on this Levy strap that I hadn't seen before even though there are no reviews online

It's great! Only one practice in, but so far I like it more than the others I've used (mono Betty, Levy 4.5", Gruv gear neo 4", couch) comfort-wise, and I like the backing a lot.

So far, I'd recommend it, and as of now it's my #1

I just got this strap today, in brown, and I hate it. It's not very grippy, which I need, but the biggest issue is that the adjustable buckle has a leather seam in the back that stick out, so it digs into your back. I have a 2" Levy's fabric strap for guitars that doesn't have any bunch up behind the buckle so it's comfortable.
I have to return it this bass strap immediately. I don;t like how thick the suede ends are, once they;re on the strap button, the rubber gaskets I use as strap locks don't fit.

It's gotten to the point where I'm thinking of eating the shipping an import taxes on a Lakota leather 3" buffalo strap cause that one is thin, supple, wide, grippy. I'd love to know if it bunches up at the adjustment end like the thin, supple, grippy Fender worn out strap.

Which bass? Most are run of the mill cloth but I do have an El Dorado which I need to sell. I had a Carvin strap that was asymmetrical. one day a lady at work was getting into crochet and was asking if anyone need any small projects done... so I brought in the Carvin strap and she crocheted an oatmeal colored strap with an embroidered set of initials (she had a machine) and she sewed the crochet work onto the strap. For the cost of materials, It turned out real nice and I use it on the Schecter stiletto 6.
She was a such a sweetheart.
