What is your favorite bass strap?

The reinforced style are very sturdy and rigid, so they don't curl at the shoulder. They don't look like nursing shoes either. Mine is leopard print velour, which should be mandatory for all players regardless of genre.

Rad :thumbsup: I'da picked the same one... matches the tattoo near my arse, and my bedroom ceiling and doors, comforters, my cars interior, and about 1/4 of my wardrobe (see my profile pic :p ...all mostly snow leopard) Bonus points for soft!

Lots of the recommendations sound great, but my main concern is "slippage" or neck dive. I need a strap that's comfortable of course, but that also helps me maintain the angle I like. I'd rather not sew velcro to the inside of my strap and the shoulders of my shirts if I can avoid it!;) (I'm playing a 9.5-ish lb Ric 4003s if that helps)

The 4" Italia straps I use have a suede backing, which helps keep the strap in place. I use them with my 4003's and they are extremely comfortable.

For a long long time I swore by Levy's. The big four inch padded one. Good strap, but recently I've switched to the wide Gruv Gear Neo Solo. Love it, the most comfortable strap I've ever tried. But I'm already thinking I need another one and am looking as the Eso bass strap.

I prefer leather straps and the best leather strap is one that you can make yourself out of high quality full grain leather. Get a good piece about 3" wide. mark it, cut it with a utility knife, and soften with neatsfoot oil. The more you twist it and roll it, the softer it becomes. Add strap locks. Use it often, and it will eventually feel like a nice worn pair of shoes or jeans. If you want to add bling, its easy to add conchos of any design, and you can also get some leather working tools and hammer some designs or even add color with stain. I have two, both plain, not blinged up, and they are soft as a puppy's behind from years of use. The unfinished side of a full grain leather strap offers plenty of resistance to slippage, unlike many cheaper leather straps which use separate smooth thin gauge leather pieces glued or sewn onto the back. My straps are one-piece, extremely durable, as well as very comfortable and slip-free.

Italia is 7/10. Moody 9/10. Only worth it to me if I can acquire a used one. JMHO.

I use a 1.5 inch Levy’s cloth strap. Weight of basses don’t bother me too much, but then again, I play Sousaphone in marching/pep band.

I am interested in getting a different strap, and trying out different positions and heights though. I wouldn’t mind being able to have my bass more parallel to the floor on occasion. The angle of my wrist feels better when it’s like that, and I really don’t care about appearing nerdy or like a rocker. Are there any straps that would allow for that kind of placement? Or should I just try to shorten my strap a lot?

You may wish to try either a suede or suede-backed strap so that your bass stays at the angle you set.

I use one of these:

Don't like the typical leather straps that are ridiculous wide in one end and oddly narrow in the other, which seems to be the most common model of straps.

If I could get something similar to the Fender strap I use now, that is woven fabric on one side and some sort of synthetic plastic like leather on the other side, in genuine plain black leather without too much unnecessary decoration I would prefer that, but I have yet to find a strap like that.

I went on a strap spree a few years back, and decided that black leather was my favorite. Some have grippier backings than others, but almost all of them grip to some degree.

A few months ago I went on another spree, because I realized that I hate straps with grippy backs. :sour::thumbsdown: Got me some nice Dunlop nylon, a couple of Get’m Get’m, but my current faves are the Souldier seatbelt web straps. Nice and slippery. :cool: Long too.
