That was pretty funny, the best part being the photo of the programmer. Are you insinuating that Raiders of the Lost Ark is on the same level as those? I haven't played it in 30 years, but I assure that those graphics, to a 7 year-old in 1982, were like an acid trip. I still remember that box you ended up in on the second screen which was almost impossible to get out of. Once I managed to do it, but I could never remember how.

The oldest game that I would put on my all time top 10 would be Robotron: 2084. Every now and then I'll see one of those multi game arcade machines, and you can net your sweet backside that I'm gonna pump at least a few quarters into it if it has Robotron on it! No modern fps comes close to the edge of your seat action that that game does.
For consoles, I started on the NES, and could happily put SMB 3 on anytime and be happy as a clam.
My son latched onto an Atari Flashback 4 on evilBay not too long ago and I hear Asteroids (and others) constantly. It brings me back to my youth when I'd hear it at the bowling alley. Man, I was a horrible, horrid teenager.
Hmmm...might need to look into that myself.
Funny you mention bowling alley, that's where we would all go play video games. After "adjusting" our state of mind a bit.......
For the NES, I'll say Legend of Zelda and Zelda II, Metroid, and Kid Icarus were my favorites.
Super NES- Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger.
N64- Turok 2, Zelda 64, and Killer Instinct Gold.
PC- Myst and the Legend of Kyrandia series.
I'll leave Playstation and xbox out if this for now. I was born in '83 so I don't remember too much of Atari or Colecovision.

Baseball Stars and Super Tecmo Bowl.
Metal Gear and Ikari Warriors were a couple of the few non-sports games that held my interest enough to play till the end.

I loved Ikari Warriors as a kid. My uncle had it and I'd play it every time I got the chance. I always loved how you could get in the little tanks, but it never lasted too long as that game was hard as ****.
