Well it's at least older than 2004, although not by much. Phantasy Star Online for Dreamcast, then later Gamecube, and still somewhat on PC.

I have a bunch of older games I love. I still regularly play my Sega Saturn and SNES although my SNES games are SFC titles except one.

There have been some great mentions on this list. The hours I dumped in Tecmo Bowl as a child were ridiculous. Although Blades of Steel was better.

I liked the original NES "Ice Hockey" game much more than Blades of Steel. I also loved Tecmo Bowl and a tennis game by the same company called Racquet Attack. It's still the best tennis game I've played.

And +1 on Karate Champ. I almost beat it at the arcade, once.

The oldest game that I would put on my all time top 10 would be Robotron: 2084. Every now and then I'll see one of those multi game arcade machines, and you can net your sweet backside that I'm gonna pump at least a few quarters into it if it has Robotron on it! No modern fps comes close to the edge of your seat action that that game does.

For consoles, I started on the NES, and could happily put SMB 3 on anytime and be happy as a clam.

Racket Attack was a pretty good time, and I don't even like tennis. Ice Hockey was awesome, I played that right up until high school. My friends and I would have some intense matches. Nothing was better than a bench clearing team brawl. I did forget to mention World Cup Soccer and King's of the Beach Volleyball. Two of the NES's finest sporting moments.

Its a shame the ultima series kinda got forgotten as a franchise after Ultima Online.

Ultima VII is one of my favorite game of all time and it and the 6th are landmarks in western RPGs. Lots of things these games did that are now expected in today's games. For example how you can pick up almost anything in elder scrolls games. Ultima started that. I remember in ultima VII, since I was used that in games normally if you could pick it up, it was useful, i'd just pick up everything, candles, forks, knives, chairs....eventually I realized most of this was just junk. The game was also full of sidequests that were not in any way important to the main storyline. I don't think that type of thing was common then though i'm not sure if Ultima started it. that was before quest journals made it in game though so you had to write every single thing down. Quests weren't obvious. Someone had told you about someone in another town, you just figured that might be a quest. It didn't clearly tell you by appearing in a quest journal.

It's also one of the oldest RPG series of all time, the first is 1981 (and its spiritual predecessor, also by Richard Garriott, Akalabeth is 1979! It's insane to think they had computer rpgs that far back). It should still be around kicking newer rpg series in the groin...

Going way back here... My favorite video(arcade) game was TEMPEST from the 1980`s. Loved the clean,minimal lines and the simplicity of both the gameplay and the controls. I enjoyed playing,even though I pretty much sucked. :P

Arcade style, Centipede or Galaga for sure. Early console, probably Donkey Kong. Later console, probably Sonic. Newer console, GTA Vice City. Yup I'm a video game sheeple. I had very few, but they were the popular ones, and I sucked bad at all of them. Had that handheld "football" game from post #2 or #3 there, too. And the hockey, and soccer. And Simon.

Asteroids, Galaga and Defender were great, but there can only be one #1

I was a beast on that game.

If I had invested the money I spent playing that game on blue chip stock I could retire to my own Caribbean island and live like a king..... :(
