I originally hated Power Windows, but over the years it has grown on me. It's probably in my top 5.

Probably Hemispheres, or Power Windows. I kinda like that 80's synth stuff. I always found Moving Pictures to be a bit overrated. Still a great album, just not one of my favourites.

I'm bringing this back to the top becasue I finally gave PW the chance it deserves. I only got into Rush last November or so, I downloaded a bunch of MP3's off each album, loved it, went out and bought 2112-Signals, downloaded more MP3's, needed more CD's, went for GUP, HYF and Presto next...
Notice I skipped Power Windows... everything I had heard off it just sounded too 80's synthey... I didn't mind Emotion Detector...
Anyway, fast forward to just last week, I've been major-digging HYF, so I thought "hey, I should give PW another try". Put on my headphones, sat down and played Grand Designs. I was remotely intrigued... I took off the headphones, fired up the ol' hi-fi, and bickety-bam! It finally hit me.
There's a lot of studio wizardry and stereo stuff that just doesn't come through right on headphones. PW is a sonically HUGE album, it just sounds massive when you blast it on a nice hi-fi. Now I'm hooked. Middletown Dreams is my favourite track, with Grand Designs as a pretty close second.
I don't *love* The Big Money, but then again, I think I'm also the only person who doesn't *love* Tom Sawyer, or Limelight, or Closer to the Heart...
I'd say PW is probably on my top three Rush albums list...
Anyway, I've been sick all week so hopefully tomorrow I'll have the energy to go buy the actual cd and RTB, which i've also been jonesing for.
Give PW a chance!

P.S.: From what I've read, everyone was mad at Rush for making Signals, which was much more synth-ey than MP. GUP only sealed the deal - Rush were definitely not on the track the "early era" fans hoped for. I, however, applaud them for not staying still, for refusing to stay static. I'm sure they could have cranked out a few more Moving Pictures-type albums, then called it a day. But they didn't - and they're STILL evolving! Wow.
"Power Windows" grew on me, too, after a while. Not in my top 5, though.. maybe not even top 10! I'd have to say "Moving Pictures" is my favorite, followed by "Hemispheres" and "Caress of Steel." And I, personally, would rank "Rush," "Fly by Night," "A Farewell to Kings," "2112," "Permanent Waves," "Signals," "Exit: Stage Left," "Grace Under Pressure," and "Counterparts" ahead of "Power Windows."
But, that's just me. And I still think "Power Windows" is pretty damn good! It was just so jarring when it came out, a real radical change for them.
"Vapor Trails" comes out May 14th, and the tour starts in the United States on June 28th. Haven't seen any other dates or cities yet. I'm leaving town July 12-20, and I just know they're gonna play Atlanta while I'm gone!

I have to say the first was my favorite. I used to listen to Working Man before every football game to get me pumped.

I have much respect for That 70's Show - they played 10cc's "The Wall Street Shuffle" at the beginning of one of the eipsodes, I almost cried! I love that song.

MAn o man! i am dissapointed in all of you! only ONCe did i see Caress Of Steel mentioned! and thats RUSH's best album for sure!
I mean, anything about fantasy songs,

Caress of Steel is definitely rockin'. It's a good album, but I'd say it's far from Rush's best... I suppose it is subjective

For today anyway, Vapor Trails. I managed to get my grubby little fingers on a prerelease copy today and have listened to it three times already

I'm about the same age as Geddy (actually he's three years older than I am) so what appeals to me might not be the same as what you'd like, but I like the title track, Earthshine and Out Of The Cradle the best so far.
Crazy basslines? Lots of them. Geddy seems to be playing more strings at the same time than on any other Rush album.

Thats a tough one since I'm a Rush Freak.
But don't knock Power Windows, It does kick.
There are some great basslines on that album, I mean CD.
Territories and Grand Design are great tracks.
As stated before, do crank it up.

I'm only 15, so maybe I don't know what the big Rush kick is all about. I've heard so much on here that I figured I should check them out. So, I downloaded Limelight and Red Barchetta off KaZaA. I don't know, but it sounded a lot like 80's pop, especially their vocalist. My god! The music sounded pretty cool, but I can't get past the fact that their singer sounds like the guy from Queen, and the whole thing just sounds corny. Maybe there's something wrong with me.
