My home rig is a 25 watt Orange crush amp under my desk. I practice in a small home-office, and I have no neighbors. I use two different 5 strings primarily. TBH I would love more low end than the 8 or 10" speaker in the combo provides.

Less barking, more wagging!
Several years ago Mike Arnopol made me a pair of bass cabs made of composite materials; an 8-Ohm1x8 Crazy8 (11 pounds), and a 4-Ohm 2x8 +tweet Crazy88 (less than 20 pounds). Both have pole-mount sockets installed. Each cab is carried in a Meinl Cajon bag; the Crazy8 and amp fit in one bag.
At home, I use the Crazy8. When I need more volume, I use the Crazy88 or both.
I love these speakers. The represent the first time I was able to say my double bass sounds the same as it does acoustically, only louder.
Because they present a combined impedance of 2.67 Ohms, I won't buy any amp that can't push a 2 Ohm load.
My amp has been an Acoustic Image Focus for the past few decades. It's the best amp I've owned since 1968, and it has a built in variable high-pass filter which makes it possible for me to play at gig volume without worrying about damaging the 8" drivers.
I play 4- and 5-string electric basses, both fretted and fretless, plus double bass and an Azola electric upright.

I was using a little Ampeg RB108 (?). Sounded great at low volume and could be used at very low volume rehearsals. Also had headphone jack and mp3 input.
I bought the Mesa SW115. (36lbs) and the D800+ head. Really small footprint so I just use them at home now. I figure it gets me comfortable with the sound that will also be used in gigs. I put the Ampeg in a closet.
I have a 95 Fender USA Jazz.
The head has headphone jack and mp3 option as well so if I’m practicing late at night I have that covered too.

My home rig is my pedalboard into a Mackie 402, and a pair of Shure 1540 headphones. More low end extension than any bass amp or PA - the only thing that limits the low end of sealed headphones is the quality of the seal. At this point I never actually play through an amp (though I own a few) - at home or at the gig.
My "genre" is whatever we're playing at church next weekend. We're a contemporary, multi racial church, so that's a very wide open field of possibilities.
My current home rig is a Genzler MG800 into an Epifani UL210/UL12 stack. It has a volume knob that I can turn down if needed.
I either use my Eden WT390 with headphones or a little Ibanez Promethean 3110. Both sound good enough for at home rehearsal. I really only geek out on my live band sound.
- Home rig when no one's home? Eden WT400 with an SWR Goliath II. It shakes the pictures off the wall!
- Home rig when there are others around? Phil Jones Double 4 combo. It has no business sounding as good as it does.
- All 4 of my basses are 5-string, w/ the exception of a Mitchell ABG. Otherwise, Pedulla Rapture, Hamer USA CruiseBass w/2TEK, Peavey Grind, & a brand spankin' new Ibanez EHB1505 multi-scale.
- Genres? Whatever suits my fancy. Anything from Sting, Jonatha Brooke, Chris Isaak, Mark Knopfler, Mark Lettieri to Chevelle, King's X, Crash Test Dummies, Badlands, Toto, Steely Dan...or I'll just turn on the radio & go.
- Low end extension is everything, to me. My 1st real amp was an SWR Basic Black, 140 watts, 1X15. It sounded good all the time, but it sounded TERRIFIC at low volume. Rich & full, it was always inspiring. Not so much on stage, though. Too much is too much & it muddies everything up. I like it clean, mean, & muscular.

I use my Axe-Fx. I have a number of patches that are similar to my live sounds, and I have patch one that is set up to sound like my gigging amp clean in case i want to use my real pedalboard with it.
That runs into a mixer. My DAW and vocal mic also go into that mixer. It then all goes into my headphones.
I only play 4's but both passive and actives.
I play everything from metal to motown.
As far as low end extension... my ATH cans do all I need for rehearsal.

I'm currently using a Fender Rumble 40 v3 combo as my home rig. I play at low volumes, so I like to run the EQ flat but with the contour button (scoop midrange) in so that the bottom end is full without having to crank the bass knob. I also tilt the amp a little to get it projecting closer to my ears. If I can't make noise for whatever reason, I'll use headphones.
What model of bass do you play *(mainly is it a 4 or 5er)?
Passive 4 string P and J, active 5 string and double bass.
What genres do you typically play?
Mostly Blues, R&B, Soul, Funk, Rock and Country/Americana.
How valuable is low end extension for playing at home and on stage?
I think low end extension is important, but not at the expense of clarity. I would rather cut lows to be able to hear myself than have a sound that rattles the walls.

Do you find that you need to make changes to your EQ between performance and practice situations?
I have a rumble 40 myself that I practice on. I however, am a mids guy and so steer away from the contour. i found out there's a contour built into the line out the other day. And standing at a distance helps with hearing the speaker more on-axis for clarity.
Do you find that more lows muddies your sound OR that low-end heavy timbres lack the mid and high end info needed for clarity?
Studio monitors can give a bass sound that many dedicated cabs can't. My roommate has HS-8s and they sound pretty good. Sometimes, I practice with them and its interesting hearing the sub-bass they have.
That's my overall target. I want an amp that excels in both scenarios.
