I like having a real amp in my practice setup so I have an Aguilar ag500 into a trickfish 110 for when my wife isn't home.

For silent practice I take the DI out of the Aguilar into a monotaur headphone amp and send an aux in from my iPad.

I send that into alclair custom in ears.

It's the best I've ever heard bass sound but that's due to the headphone amp and stellar alclair in ears.

I got my Stingray today and it's amazing. Tried it through my Crush 12 guitar amp and it sounded decent. Without any extra equipment I'd be fine using just that. However, I caved and bought the Ampeg SGT-DI in limited edition blue, because not only will it be a great headphone solution, it has a million other features I can see myself using in future. Buy once, cry once and all that.

The SGT-DI is a great choice; I put the original version on a powered board in my home music room, and put the battery-powered SCR-DI in the gig bag for silent playing in hotels when my side hustle TV job takes me on the road. I put together a married-pair instrument / headphone cable to keep it tidy.

(These days the XB Driver is on my band board.)

The SGT-DI is a great choice

+1 for the SGT / SCR-DI. The SCR became my ultimate practice tool. BUT... a couple of days ago I got myself a 1x8" combo just to have the option to practice without headphones or jam with someone playing the acoustic guitar. The combo has phones out and aux in, so it's doubling DI features, but the DI has the AUX mix knob, which is great. They can be used independently or together (the sound of the combo with the SCR-DI in front of it is like 47x better!). It's been just a few days into the combo experience, but this rig is so cool that I feel I'm gonna end up as a silent player haha

Many of my bass heads have a headphone out and my Focusrite Scarlett and one of my small Mackie mixers (2 or 4 channel) work great with headphones as well.

I have a Korg Pandora PXB4 around if anyone wants a cheap solution that has drum patterns, ease of use, etc.... They are the best, but I just am not using it anymore. Why they can't recreate those well, i have no idea.

My Stingray arrives today and now that the bass is chosen, I have shifted focus to a practice setup. I've got an Orange OB1-500 head already, which is an absolute monster in terms of playing with a band, but it's definitely not the right head for home practice. I've instead been looking at some options for playing through headphones at home.

I am generally not a fan of headphone amps like the Amplug, so I have looked to DI pedals and similar, though I am interested in heads as options as well. Right now I'm looking at options like the Ampeg SCR-DI/SGT-DI as well as some heads by TC Electronic but so far I'm undecided and turning to you all.

What is your silent practice solution?

i plug into a darkglass anagram (formally Adam or infinity) with headphones out to my passive audio technica studio headphones (forget model). Pretty awesome as the anagram has effects, and preamps and cab sims. I can also play to music via my iphone connecting in via bluetooth.

Simple: bass direct in this soundcard, itself plugged in my laptop by usb.
I use Reaper as a daw in which i can add some nice VST plugin as amplitube 3 for example. But i stay direct 95% of time.
And as i can send sound to external active speaker by rear jack connexion too, i can play silent with headphones when needed, or through my external speaker when i don't need to be silent.
No more house amp need. I use mine now excusively when a friend comes with his guitar to jam at house.

Just added another solution for more nomade use: Nux Mighty plug mp-2 head phones amp. This little bug is awesome, with a nice sound and i can jamais along with music from my phone. Happy !

I settled for a Mackie ProFX6v3+ mixer.
It has bluetooth which makes practice even easier without cables.

Sound quality is excellent and I can plug in my pedals if I want. It has some build in effects. The reverb is very nice!

Ha! I have the PXR4! It was a great little unit for getting down ideas — kept it for sentimentality and have now migrated to load boxes, amps and a DAW. I should fire it up again and see what's on the card!

I either use the PG Spark 2 with headphones or the little Vox headphone amp for bass. If I want drums or loops to jam to it's usually the Spark. If I just want to play bass I use the little Vox. I plug it into my pedalboard and go headphones out. It's pretty sweet.

I'm another one who uses headphones and a computer interface. Simple pedal based preamp into an amp sim in my computer. Headphone amp into some decent headphones with play along tracks from the computer.

Since I have headphones with detachable cables, I made a custom short cable and put the transmitter on the head band. Works great.

I use a bass wireless as well.

If I forget to recharge, I just use corded headphones and a 1/4" cable.

I bought a $200 mixer to plug everything into. Bass or board(s), vox, backing tracks, & another person if we want. Even can stream Bluetooth or use it as an interface to track to the computer with.

Phil Jones HA-2 USB ADAC and headphone amp. It has very good DAC chip and headphone amplifier in it for playback. It also serves as a great input to record yourself as well. It is one of my most-used pieces of gear and is a real Swiss Army Knife, whether I'm traveling abroad or practicing at the office or at home while everyone's sleeping.
