My friend has this bass [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] it looks like a '51 precision fender bass, it has one pickup. The bass has a bit of a grounding problem it seems, figuring it's from a shotty pickup, seeing as the bass is really cheap. The neck is fine, and i was looking for a single pickup to replace the stock one with that has the least amount of feedback/grounding issues. Any suggestions? thanks!

I don't have any experience with Tele bass pickups, but i am very tempted to recommend Curtis Novak, being as he made me an amazing custom pickup.

It might just be the normal noise that a single coil pickup tends to pick up. Does it lessen when you turn the bass in a different direction, or is it the same volume no matter how the bass is oriented?
If it's just the normal noise, a few companies now make noise canceling pickups for the 51 P bass type. If it's not, then there's something wrong within the wiring that needs to be corrected.
Yeah, i am not quite sure how a pickup would have a grounding problem, as if you don't have a proper ground, you don't get any output...
If your getting 60Hz hum, that's perfectly normal of a single coil pickup.
I would suggest proper shielding and a good noise gate to help tame the noise. A little bit of EQ can help, but don't overdo it.
If there is indeed some problem with the pickup, there are plenty of replacements out there, i mentioned 2 of them in my above post.

As has been said, you may be hearing single coil noise, which no amount of shielding will eliminate completely. There are humbucking upgrades available.
Correct me if I am wrong,more than likely I am,But I don't think the seymour duncan is a direct drop-in replacement for this bass,I think the pickup cavity would require modification for the pickup to fit...
On a different note everything that everyone else has suggested seems to be right on the mark and if a pickup change is the answer you can't do much better than a seymour duncan.
