What kind of strings do you use?

I am a Rotosound 66 stainless user on both my basses . I recently installed a set of Apex Cryo stainless steel rounds on one of my basses to try something new .
Man I love them so much I ordered a heavy set to put on my down tuned bass . Now to see how much life I get outta them .

I've used their electric and acoustic guitar strings. They are quite good. But I use primarily flats on my basses and they don't make flats. When they do, I'll be 1st in line to try them.

Truth be told, I have never played SS. They're apparently brighter, but harder on your frets and fingers from what I've heard.I haven't tried the Nickel Lo-Riders. Only the stainless. Hmmm......got me thinking now....do i need to try the Nickel? I kinda like the "harshness" of the S/S
I had a slightly used set of DR Pure Blues 100-45 lying around so when it came time to change strings on my Player Precision I slapped them on. Nice! The Pure Blues seem to have that P-bass feel baked into them. They just sound good.
Some SS rounds can be abrasive and rough in surface feel, but DR SS Lo-Riders are smoother than most other SS rounds and easier on the frets and on your fingers.
That's good to know. I prefer the feel of the Lo-riders, but I like the brighter sound of the Pure Blues. I've actually been contemplating getting a set of SS lo-riders for a while now. I will probably take the plunge next time I need a new set. Thanks!

Funny thing.....after playing the Pressurewounds for a while, i got back on my DR LR's and my 1st thought was "Wow, i don't remember the surface being this rough & hard on my fingers!"
I call it the "bass string theory of relativity".
When I tried the GHS Pressurewounds for the first time back in 2015, I had been playing flats exclusively. I didn't understand what was so special about them as they felt just like any rounds under my fingers. Then I went on a spree trying a bunch of rounds, and it was when I came back to the PWs that I realized how smooth they actually were. It's all relative.

Well, I'm going a full 360 & veering away from the DR Lo-Riders (PW for backup) and going on the Flats band wagon. I'm going to trial the EB Cobalt Flats 45-100 (liking the reviews "bright like rounds, better mids & smoooooth on the fingers) on my white Ray 4 (EBMM Pup & John East pre) & looking for another set that has the deepest, darkest, dullest sound you've ever heard! Can you recommend a set?? My black Ray 4 is soooooooooooo super bright (Delano MC 4 HE/S pup with MusicMan Stingray 2 band pre. Not so bright in parallel IMO & can be tamed changing the amp EQ) but...........I'm just keen to put on the dullest set of flats to experiment

Have you tho't of maybe the RotoSound 88's. Tape wound (black) over flat wound string. Would also look cool on a black bass.
